Will that product called STANADYNE, which is approved by GM, give me antigel protection during the cold northern Wisconsin winter? Can any of you guys offer any cold weather starting tips from your experience. I do run the synthetic mobile 1 diesel motor oil. You guys were right I LOVE this diesel!
Thanks

Yes, the Stanadyne Performance Formula is designed to lower the pour point of diesel and provide anti-gel protection. You should be fine even without it, as I'm sure the fuel stations sell blended fuel in your area during the winter months. However, if you're like me, you'd rather be safe than sorry.
I've also had excellent luck with Power Service products for cold weather use. The nice thing about Power Service is that it's available almost anywhere--most Walmarts carry it, and truckstops usually stock it.
Hope this helps.

Aron,
Mobil-1 15W50 (http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil1_15W-50.asp) is not rated for the Duramax as it only carries a CF rating. The Duramax requires a CH-4 or CI-4 (latest) API service rating. This rating is a measure of how the additive package handles soot. As far as I know, only 5W40 Delvac-1 (http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXE2CVLMOMobil_Delvac_1_5W-40.asp) and Mobil-1 Truck & SUV (http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil_1_Truck_SUV_5W-40.asp) (rebadged Delvac-1) carry the CH-4/CI-4 rating required by GM for the Duramax.

Aron420,
In Canada, Petro-Canada makes a 5w-40 syn. oil that is very good and is also great for the dmax in cold climates. In fact the dealership that I bought my truck from said that GM reccomends the use of a synthetic in cold climates and, get this... becuase I bought the truck at the local dealer ship they give me two oil and filter changes and a lube job for free every year, so they put the Petro-Canada 5w-40 synthetic Duron oil in for free. Not too bad eh? It si also the same oil that I run all year round.

I had my dealership here in Leduc,Alberta put synthetic in last time and they said they use 0W-40. I didnt know that even existed, sounds strange that one GM dealership uses 5W-40 and one 0W-40.
