wow thats strange, I just put mine on today aswell and it a great deal diffrrant and can also hear the turbo whistle alot better too.

What I did find odd sounding is that standing at the rear, thr tail pipe almost sounds sounds like a suction instead of exaust.

Very happy with the install and the resultshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Cat back MBRP here. On startup it sounds great. Other than that almost zero difference in sound. I was highly disappointed.

Many have said if you put on a cat back exhaust that the sound doesn't change. You would need to get rid of the cat to get more noise.

Afternoon,

If you install one of our MBRP systems with the factory cat in place it will be close to stock sound levels. If you remove the cat it will be totally different, volume wise, in fact some folks says it's too loud. Because of that we have built a resonator that mounts as far forward as possible and for those with no cats keeps the sound level low and accepatable. Yet it causes next to no restriction so you get the max EGT benefit.

I removed the CAT the sound it not much louder that stock. The install was ok, except they sent NO directions and I had to buy two 4" clamps. Guess MBRP didn't think I need clamps on a couple of things.Edited by: turbo lcc

If your cats gone and your muffler....it should be LOUD. Mine is....about as loud as my old straight piped cranked up cummins,

dpower, what year cummins did you have? My 01 cummins was 10 times as loud, stock with a muffler than my 05 LLY with no cat and MBRP muffler. The truck is louder but not much. The idle/road sound is a little more that stock exhaust. Don't get me wrong I like it.

I had an 03....with about every goody you could think of. Tstpmcr edge ez stacked b1 turbo big injectors.....yadda, yadda yadda. About the only thing it didn't have is twins. It also had 5in stacks. You have to remember that with your 01...engine noise is much louder than any of the common rail trucks. Don't let that fool you. If you have no muffler or cat....let your wife drive and stand behind your truck when she hits the throttle hard. It should be loud. I had no idea how loud my common rail cummins was until I put the stacks on and had the exhaust right up beside the cab. Up until then when people told me my truck was loud I thought they were crazy. I also notice your engine is stock...add an edge and power pup and the noise wil increase as well...my truck is approaching the obnoxious level.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

Turbo lcc,

I installed a new down pipe back MRBP. Removed the cat and used the supplied muffler. It is slightly louder but, more importantly it lowered the EGT and that is what I find to be important. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

By how much I am getting ready to put a Juice/*** on my truck, and that is why I put the MBRP on too (EGT relief after the chip).

I welded the cat into my 4'' pipe with a free flow muffler and it sounds good after warm up. the hisssssing you here is the turbo vain shutting so it will warm it up faster.

nlvcc,

That sound you're hearing is the variable turbo doing it's thing, the 6.0 Ford's do it as well.

I had the same result very quiet with cat. I then bought the front pipe and swapped out the cat, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! it sounds awesome outside and not too loud inside. Order the front pipe you won't be dissapointed.
