: Hole in airbox, what is it?

Should there be an open hole in the airbox (see pictures for location)? This is after the air filter, non-filtered air. I was just wondering if there is supposed to be a sensor or a plug or something there. I was going to put a piece of tape or something on it until I get the afe stage 2.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/RyanG/2004-10-22_181312_airboxinside.jpg

You are missing the filterminder, Ryan. Should be a rubber grommet containing the clear plastic indicator that shows filter restriction/clogging. It is on the clean side of the filter and should definitely be plugged or replaced ASAP!

Here's what's missing:

Darn! look at all that fine, nasty limestone dust, dirt and agricultural harvesting season windage in my engine compartment and on my airbox!! Good thing I'm running a UNI FILTER and just had a 5 ppm silicon on my oil analysis!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

But Idle, I thought the UNI was a piece of dirt and with holes no less!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Yep, that's the TRUTH about it, and I have been getting good oil analysis results because I don't drive in dirty conditions. Not to get into the bickering - which I've tried to avoid - but I personally feel confident in the design of oiled foam and have been using one for 85,000 miles.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Thanks.

I put a piece of tape over the hole for now. Anyone know where I can get a filterminder? Or how much it is at the dealer? I might just keep the tape their until the intake is upgraded.

I wonder how long it was open like that for...I bought it used.

Thank again for the help.

Don't bother, you don't need it.

It isn't worth the trouble. Just replace your filter every 10-15K and you will be fine.

I finally questioned the accuracy at 25K, and went ahead and put in a filter.

Save the money on the filterminder and grommet. I haven't heard of one being set yet.

Ditto on the filter minder thoughts. I would find something good to plug the hole for a permanent fix. You don't want the tape to get sucked in and go you know where.
