: DMax Stutter and Low Power

I have a 2003 K2500 HD CC SRW D/A that I bought in June 2003, and was not impressed with the power as I thought I should have been (never owned a diesel before). I bought a Banks Stinger package with 6 Gun, Speed Loader and installed it in January 04, and am still was not happy, especially after my buddy's 7.3 Ford spanked me. I suspected a Banks problem, and I think have resolved that everything is responding properly within the Banks package (Texas Performance Diesel in South Houston has just checked everything out, recommended by Banks). The guy over there told me it was the slowest DMax he had ever driven. He suspects an underlying GM problem that will not allow the truck to "get out of its own way".

There is a possible GM problem, and it started to manifest itself last spring. I get an intermittent "stutter" where it literally feels that the engine has lost power for a split-second under light to moderate to heavy acceleration. No SES light. I took it into the dealer to see if something could be determined, he could not duplicate it and said he reflashed the ECM. The problem continues from time to time, never setting a code. In July, the truck died as I was making a U-turn but immediately restarted. Absent the intermittent stutter and lack of grunt, no apparent driveability issues.

So, I have a dog with a stutter, where I expected to have a reasonably potent truck. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. Truck now has 26K, and is struggling to get 13 MPG unloaded.

Thanks

changed the fuel filter recently? Get that aftermarket stuff off of it for starters...

Have the dealer inspect it....stock. Ask to drive a similer truck and compare

I changed the fuel filter at 14K, getting close again. I am going to disable the Banks stuff and take it in. I would like to find a top gun tech here in Houston for analysis. Any recommendations or references welcome. Thanks

I think what they are trying to say dont just disable the banks take it off the truck......Leave the exhaust, guages if you have them, but take any and all tuners chips etc completely out of the truck. Then take it to dealer. also do like he said and drive another truck to get a feel for what they should run like...maybe someone in this forum lives in your area and would be willing to give you a ride in there truck....This is my first diesel also and i could not be more impressed with the power when i first bought it (stock) now that i have a tuner on it all i can say is WOW!!! Faster than a newer ford mustang gt... Edited by: hdd-max

Sorry to hear your truck isn't behaving well.

You might want to read my post and see if there is anything you can do to get a different truck.

I also heard that some of the LB7 motors have injector problems. Don't know if that can cause your symptoms though.

Make sure you keep a detailed log of the number of times you take your truck in and what the dealer says. That will help in the end if you have a lemon!

I sympathize with you. There is nothing worse than spending a lot of money on something that does not work the way it is supposed too!

Keep me posted on the outcome.

I do agree with everyone else though....Make sure there are no aftermarket products on your truck when you bring it in. You don't want to give the dealer a reason to say it is your fault! Because if they can find a way, they wil just to get out of it!!!!!
