I cut a sidewall in one of my rear tires. Has aluminum rims. I can't get the darn thing off the truck. Tried kicking the tire with all of my weight and also tried a block of wood with a big sludge hammer. It won't budge. Anyone have any ideas?

Rubber mallets work wonders. Especially the heavy ones :)
Best of luck, I've been there many times! Sometimes you just have to keep trying, maybe some penetrating lube would help?

Thanks. I only have a small rubber mallet but I will try it. Tried penetrating oil, too. Also tried driving it a little with the nuts finger tight (I'm in my back yard with grass so I don't think I will ruin the wheel). Nothing so far.

i use a my big jack handle through the wheel and use it like a pry bar...works good for me, and doesnt ruin the wheel.

take a long 2 x 4 and wedge it between the leaf springs and rubber on the tire, watch out the 2 x 4 doesnt hit you when it lets go. I have had to do this on several occasions.

Thanks guys. The 2x4 worked great.

To stop it from happening again, spread a thin coat of never-sieze or grease on the mounting surface of the rotor. Don't go too crazy with it, just enough to repel the moisture.

I have always found using graphite powder on the back of the wheel will keep them from sticking, plus you don't have grease or any other lube getting your wheels dirty.

same thing happened to me when i rotated the tires a few months ago. +1 on what is said above, spread some grease on the back of the wheels and the rotor face and it shouldnt happen again.

Glad you got the rim off. I worked my way up to a 4x4 and a big hammer. I put a small film of grease on the surface also. Just be glad you weren't along a major hyway wiyh a flat.
