Poor take off in first gear. Can be very troublesome when trying to manuver a left hand turn or smoke a import at a red light.

It takes a little practice, but you must learn the art of brake torquing.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
Hold the brake down and give er some gas . You can then let up on the
brake slowly or quickly to give just the right amount of oomph.
On left turns it's kinda neat to actually be able to fishtail the
dually on dry pavement ( ...if you really wanted to that is. I've
never done it personally http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif).

They also respond better to partial throttle application from a standing start. Remember that the power output is restricted in 1st and 5th gears to protect the Ally...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

Welcome to the world of turbo-charged diesels nak-nak, gotta get some rpm's goin in order to get that turbo spooled up and make some serious power. Once she hits second gear though, hold on.

The one thing I like about the slow throttle, is when it seems
every pickup wants to race me ( ford dodge) and I’m more tHan
happy to oblige. When we both start off then get a tad bit of a
jump on me then as usual the turbo ( after burners) kick in and
they are no where to be seen.

The LLY is detuned both to protect the ally in certain gears and, according to powertrain engineers, to prevent wheel slippage on take off because "It wont help you tow any better and thats what these trucks are supposed to do"

"NO TURBO LAG AT ALL" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

I still have quite a bit of lag When I Floor it off the line. I am as good as straight piped.

Like Zeeb said, I do notice it is allot better if I only give it half throttle at first. Then once it spools up a little, floor it.

I raced my buddy with his 2004, 6 speed, 555 ft lb, CC Dodge the other day. He got the jump on me, and was chirping his tires between gears, but when the LLY spooled up it ate his lunch!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif See ya!!!

On the other hand in my story, I raced a 03 Dodge auto w/Edge chip, intake, and exh. and i pulled away from him HARD right out of the hole and all the way down the track ! He ran a 15.5? and i ran a 14.14 ! Both of us were spooled up and in 4wd . The LLYs just need alittle more spool up then the LB7. 1.88 60ft times is no slouch especially for a 7,000 lb diesel 4wd.

Nak nak, i know what ya mean from a dead idle but if you can just give her some spool up time they rock !

That will likely change when edge comes out with their new Dodge chip very shortly. It will likely be 100+hp instead of the 60 they have now. Of couse the Hot LLY is just around the corner too. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Yep, check signature for mods. I would like to upgrade it but dont have the money just yet. Just edge , normally 3 or 4 or sometimes 5 but dont like all the smoke from partial throttle when on 5 and normal driving. Love the smoke when playing though. Level 3 when stacked with Quad on 70 for normal driving .

Edge w/***. Level 5/5 + Quad tuner 70hp +tow/haul, defuel 4-5 only , 4wd launch w/265s at 40lbs air @ about 24-2500 rpm ! This tune w/Quad on 110hp instead of 70hp gave me my one and ONLY limp. So no more of that ! Damn, now you know all my secrets. LOLhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

FASTOYS,
So you've never had a problem (limp) when giving your stock Allison a workout with the Edge on Level 5? I have never really pushed the issue when playing around but I figured it would limp with a stock tranny if you really got on it while at level 5. Level 3 is as high as I have been when really getting on it. Am I being too conservative?

FASTOYS

No , But dont let me talk you into burning your tranny up either. I know what to look/listen for also. The stock ally is really only good up to about 90 hp extra . Anything much more starts to take its toll on her. 5th gear is really the main problem IMO . That is when i saw trouble when stacking heavy. With just the Edge only on 5/5 it will show some slip while converter is locked up IN 5th gear while under full power. I can actually feel it sometimes when the Edge is cutting power back to prolong the tranny while in 5th . For me though , so far so good ! My 2002 LB7 got limped a BUNCH of times with different programs etc. and it stilled pulled just fine even up to the day i traded it in.
