: LLY VS LB7
Got Juice? 10-22-2004, 01:57 PM If you had to make a choice (And have it your way) on your new truck, what would you choose for an engine if GM offered it?
Wouldn't it be nice to have the option of a single 4BBL carb or the Twin Carb option like GM had on their DZ302 Camaro with the manifold in the trunk?Edited by: Got Juice?
ratlover 10-22-2004, 02:16 PM What about last choice without the VVT?
I'll take option code TTShttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif too. Edited by: ratlover
Max Power 10-22-2004, 02:28 PM I'd like an LB7 with easy to change injectors.
blnagel 10-22-2004, 02:40 PM LB7 with easy injectors here too.
Ben
What Max Power Said! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
IBDMAX'IN 10-22-2004, 03:06 PM I'll jump on that wagon!! Easy injectors would be a dream come true.
Got Juice? 10-22-2004, 03:19 PM LOL... confession time here.
I voted for the last option.
tbone1227 10-22-2004, 03:47 PM LOL - you left off the first option for choices - LLY AS IS, NO CHANGES, although it might not have received any votes anyways
ratlover 10-22-2004, 04:04 PM you really would prefer the VVT?
Spill the beans why, we know you are the resident turbo expert, what is it fastened with all wing nuts and quick change couplers for easy change out? or no external waste gate line to temp you into wipping out your "tuning" tool. Then again you would probably try some JB weld the fins of the VVT to see how much you could get it huffinghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
In all seriousness why?Edited by: ratlover

I believe that very soon someone will completely crack the LLY turbo as far as maintaining higher boost pressures over a longer duration of time without it exploding. We will see an LLY with 500 very very soon without any assist. And lower EGT's (as expected with lower drive pressures) but that does also ASS U ME that the kitty will be gone and a nonexistant EGR system.
Although it would still present challenges as far as future upgrades to turbos are concerned (as the new LLY 1%ers will soon find out)
Ah well.... If i could have it my way, it would have paralell twins from the factory ( 1 per bank) lol... and a true dual exhaust... things that make you go hmmmm.
My perfect choice would be 01-03 injector tips and bodies in LLY heads with a standard (CTD) mount turbo flange, no Cat and No EGR.
GM?
Hello?
Hello?
Are you listening?
BTW definately not the resident turbo expert. That title belongs to Steve Cole. I do know a few things here and there, especially with the IHI turbo but there is much to learn stillhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
ratlover 10-22-2004, 05:19 PM Youve seen the innards of more of em than any one else.....or peices of the innardshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif
I have been wondering if the potential was there with the VVT. I know with the right tunerhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif that it could be very sweet indeed.....turbo lag? whats that. I have been unsure and waiting to see if the new VVT would be capable and hold its cookies better than the ihi.

Bowtie Boy 10-22-2004, 05:35 PM LB7 with easy access injector for me pleasehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
Burner 10-22-2004, 05:49 PM ever wondered why the heads wouldn't swap?
I'd like to have the injector placement and turbo from the LLY. However, I think (give me air http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif) that the LB7 injectors would need to stay. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
I wonder if it is possible to have LLY heads addressed to accept the LB7 injectors?

gardnerteam 10-22-2004, 10:38 PM LB7 with dependable (300,000 mi) easy to change injectors. My LLY could then be used to anchor the Queen Mary. LLY is a fuel guzzeling dog.

Fuel Guzzling Dog?
Isn't creative writing in the other forum?
Good colloquialisim thoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
McRat 10-23-2004, 09:29 PM I'd stick with the LLY. The engines are basically the same, but the injector location and VVT turbo are better for "bolt-on" hot rodding.
Burner 10-23-2004, 10:51 PM McRat, are the injectors the same? Which injector will flow more and which one is more robust? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

LB7's have a 9mm tip. LLY's have a 7. Solenoid and tip orifice are about exactly the same (I'm told). LB7's would be easier to drill, but they're really pretty close in all other aspects...T
Burner 10-23-2004, 11:44 PM Juice, ya got some pic's so we can see the difference in injectors? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Having tried every way I know to make the pics load on that link to no avail, stopped by the dealer today to look at the injectors and get the low-down. Fuel inlet moved down 45 degree's/ solenoid is weather-pac instead of two screw/ nozzle is extended (to clear valve cover) and reduced from 9mm to 7mm. Same solenoid (function) and same delivery spec's. Does this jive with the posted link, or am I still just a ******in idiot grease monkey wannabe?? ...T

Got Juice? 10-25-2004, 09:23 PM you need adobe acrobat reader to view the link
or go to www.dipaco.com (http://www.dipaco.com)
and on the left hand side under 'rebuild the future' there is the current catalog for HPCR injection system rebuilding
I have adobe acrobat. Also just purchased error nuker and loaded. Still errors out and won't load. Have over 3 hours in makin this work, and will not load any pics from that site (only). I'll just be content in being a ******in idiot (tho HO LLY nozzle's are being drilled and calibrated as we speak)...T

Then go to sun microsystems and download Java Virtual Machine for winblows.
Then go to the site again www.dipaco.com (http://www.dipaco.com) and see if you can do it now.
Best of luck
