Hi all,
I know your all probably angry seeing a Dmax guy on enemy territory http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif but I'm looking into a problem my friends are both having with their 1999 PSD's. They are having lots of problems with their rigs overheating during 90 degree plus weather pulling mildly loaded horse trailers. I also drove a recent stretch of road this summer during our hot spell in eastern oregon and came accross two almost identical rigs with same problem, pullin' about the same load. My buddies really like their PSD's but can't seem to figure out why they overheat so easily. We did the obvious checks of air filters, coolant levels, ect. Dealers weren't much help. Just wanted to know if anybody has had the problem and maybe have a fix for it! Thanks for all your help.

know it sounds simple, but I think that there is a exhaust backpressure valve. Look for the doitch style connector by the turbo, they are known to go bad and cause some overheating problems.

I have no prejudices toward brands of trucks as long as they are diesels. Also on the EBPV, they will feel a considerable loss in power if it is acting up as well as a swooshing sound from the exhaust. Thermostat might be bad, dirty or plugged radiator, or intercooler, water pump gone bad, collapsed rad hose. I have not seen over heating problems with any diesels in a long time.
