: shocks on travel trailer
bullshooter 10-21-2004, 07:33 PM I was wondering if anyone out there has installed shock absorbers on their travel trailer, when I bought mine a few years ago the dealer said it was "shock absorber ready" if I wanted to put them on. If anyone has done this how did it change the ride. I think it would take alot of the bounce out,but would like to know for sure before I spent the $$.
Cole99 10-21-2004, 09:54 PM I had shocks on a older 35' Yellow Stone tounge pull. I forgot a picture on the wall. After 450 miles going through Texas I went into the trailer to check on everything and it was still on the wall.
Our new 25' tounge pull doesnt have shocks and if it aint put in the floor before the trip it will be at the end of ithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
Tsckey 10-22-2004, 01:25 PM My trailer came w/shocks, so can't give a before and after. But, I can say that there seems to be less jerking/vibration transmitted to the truck than w/other trailers and things in the trailer tend to stay put.

bluenote 10-22-2004, 04:20 PM Although 5th wheels ride a bit different than travel trailers, here's my take...
Our '97 Prowler 5er didn't have shocks, and although it wasn't a big problem, things occasionally tipped over, fell, etc... when towing.
Our '04 Cedar Creek 5er has shocks and things rarely move around when towing.
The shocks won't help in all situations (i.e. tight turns, quick stops), but I really like the fact that the structure won't bounce and jerk as much on rougher roads.
Terrain Twister 10-23-2004, 01:51 AM HHHHMMMMM, Starting to think I might want to add some. Any advice on where to go or what to look for?
bullshooter 10-23-2004, 03:31 PM yeah, that was going to be my next question, since my trailer is a Nash, I thought I would try their web site. or maybe the local Les Schwab store but i'm not sure how to get the right length.
Cole99 10-23-2004, 06:07 PM Here is some info on a kit put out by Monroe that I think will help you guys out. Looks like you can install shocks on any trailer.

JJs DuMax 10-25-2004, 05:14 PM My 5ver came with the morryde suspension, shocks are part of the system. My truck shudders when hitting bumps, I never feel the trailer hitting the same bumps. Like others everything is still in its place after a trip. Definitely recommend shocks at a minimum, morryde if you can get it. JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Thanks for the link. I've been looking for a way to mount shocks under our fifth wheel. Didn't know these kits were available. I'll be ordering a set Monday. :)
Heartbeat Hauler 12-02-2004, 11:14 AM I have a 5ver that does not have the shocks (I was talked out of it by the salesman) and I kick myself everytime I tow it. The trailer, while stable, induces a rocking motion which translates to the truck itself. Can you say seasick? Anyways, I been thinkin' about installing a set on my trailer also. Post any findings you come up with.

chipper 12-02-2004, 05:09 PM If you already have the shock mounts(ala Nash), any good spring shop could measure them & install the proper shocks and they make a LARGE difference in the ride for the trailer.
Oilbrnr 12-02-2004, 05:28 PM You might want to post this question on the Nash/Artic/Desert Fox www site...

I know that my 28' Desert Fox has them. They have got to help, especially over expansion joints etc.
