I have a 97 GMC and is it unheard of for your accelerator pedal to go bad? I am going to take it off when i get home and test it with the DVOM but i just didnt know if it was unheard of. When your driving it it seems like your giving it more "gas" than you really are. and when in "N" there is no way to keep the RPMs at any speed except idle. When your driving you can not keep it from accelerating or coasting.
And another question does anyone know where i can get a new accelerator pedal from except the dealer. I called then and they want $346.00 for one. If the pedal isnt it then what could it be? I have a new lift pump and am getting plenty of volume to the t valve and the fuel bowl.
Thanks Alex

I bet it is a ip or pedal from what I read. Also did the little lite dash lite come on?

Not unheard of. One of my trucks has a replacement pedal in it.

more than likely not the pedal if you did not throw a code or the service throttle soon light is not on. maybe a fuel issue. check your filter, inspect your fuel bowl, and fuel lines.

I replaced my throttle pedal a couple of years ago. dont drive it until you get it figured out, mine was acting up for about a week and then it quit completely and i drove for 10 miles at an idle. it is a roto potenciometer and they are very hard to accurately test. as for a replacement i think SS diesel supply has a good price. replacing it is simple. you should disconnect the wiring terminal, from the pedal, inspect it, and firmly reconnect it to rule out a bad connection. good luck

Symptoms are failing Inj Pump - the Fuel Solenoid is cratering - scantool can verify that
APP module will DTC when failing - needs to fail in three directions to even come close to giving those symptoms
1 - 0.6v @ idle to 4.0v @ wot is good
2 - 4.5v @ idle to 1.0v @ wot is good
3 - 4.0v @ idle to 2.5v @ wot is good
Each section gives 3 DTCs corresponding to the various failure conditions
Failing wiring harnesses and connectors can give same symptoms as failing module(s) - there : no
reference(s) to grounds, eh..............

My truck is doing the same, it accelerates by it self and some times it turns off while driving, I get codes, 17, 18, 35, 84, and 99.
This morning it shut off on me again and the service throttel light came on, I just hope to get home...........
I just ordered a new Pedal a new optical filter and a new FSD Heat Sink from SS.

When my truck was ~2 years old (1997) it had to have a replacement module installed. This ones been working ever since. It does happen apparently. Can't remember the symptoms though.
