: LBZ build which turbo 600-700RWHP?
gotboost 07-02-2007, 12:35 AM I have a 07 classic LBZ, 9" cognito, ppe hot+2, intake, suncoast stage 5 and converter..... in the 1/4 mile went 14.7 @99MPH last week in 2WD/ afraid to launch in 4wd even with superdiesel tierod sleeves, the truck spun atleast the 1/8th mile. anyway, a crackhead pulled out in front of my wife (thank god for lifts and road armor bumpers) and the truck is either totalled or close to it, time to give up a lift and build a 12 sec. street truck. If my truck is totalled I'll be getting another LBZ crewcab 4wd duramax.
I'll be using my suncoast stage 5, afe intake, edelbrock lift pump, mprb exhaust/no cat or muffler.
planning on buying PPE dual fuelers, and a turbo.
Which turbo set-up would be the way to go for mostly drag racing and truck pulls. What is basically the limit with a stock lower end and no headstuds?
carcrafter22 07-02-2007, 01:12 AM I would give McRat a call I am sure he could help you out and he is a supporting vendor, he is great to work with.
Bolyard 07-02-2007, 01:20 AM you'd probably want a GT4094. Stay below 650rwhp to be safe

What is basically the limit with a stock lower end and no headstuds? You should be in the 11's with a GT40894 on top all that! Joe at PPE has a truck just like that and it runns high 11's. I think he is running a GT4094. It could be a GT42 but I don't think so. Mcrat Im sure could hook you up also. I think if you go the twin cp3, and the turbo you will kill the bottem end sooner than later.:D
jarrett 07-02-2007, 01:30 AM Let us know how that turns out. I may have to get my wife out of the LBZ, and into my LLY.:D
gotboost 07-02-2007, 08:13 AM thanks guys, I will get ahold of mcrat and or PPE. I'm hoping to get my truck totalled and buy it back, then build a good bottom end for when it goes. Who is a good engine builder everyone is using?
Dan@PPE 07-02-2007, 02:15 PM The shop truck run a 40/94 and runs in the 11's.
40/94 with dual fuelers will make over 600 rwhp with a couple of other things you can make 650-700rwhp. Let me know if you have any other quetsions...

thanks Dan, I'll be ordering soon, I appreciate you taking the time to chime in, as a business owner I know how hectic things can get and it says alot that you take the time to post here
Idaho CTD 07-02-2007, 10:26 PM Or you could run twins and a stock cp3 to get into the 11's. ;)
05Smoker 07-02-2007, 10:40 PM I would follow what Nathan said. Idaho Rob is running 11's with twins and single CP3. Dual Cp3s and you'll be in the same boat as all the others with bad pistons and rods unless you fork out the money to build it right.
Don't forget, you can go 12's on a stock turbo.

I plan on building another engine, I will have a extra LBZ, just wondered who is a good engine builder for a Duramax?

Give Merchant a call.

My suggestion would be to refine your technique with 4x4 boosted launches and see what your truck will do BEFORE putting the bottom end at risk. You might be surprised how quick you can get it. My little LBZ 70HP tow tune runs DEEP 14's in a EC short (otherwise bone stock) at full weight, and with good air could see high 13's...
jarrett 07-03-2007, 03:24 PM I believe that. My Ec, sb LBZ ran 14.7 @ bandimere (5800') with a just a PPE 90HP. That is 90HP @ the flywheel. Probably ~50HP WHP max.
Dieselson 07-04-2007, 10:05 AM 40/94, but if you are building a purpose built race truck with a built motor, go with the GT42/02. The shop truck for PPE is running 11s with a small turbo and Dual Cp3s. Now If we could get that trans to shift right, we could have a shot at 11s
dmaxlover 07-04-2007, 01:08 PM I personally would not put an aftermarket turbo on a stock lbz.
JoshH 07-04-2007, 02:25 PM I personally would not put an aftermarket turbo on a stock lbz.
Why?
dmaxlover 07-04-2007, 05:27 PM Because of all the piston problems.

what's everyone running when they build a bottom end for the extra power? I found rods, cams, etc but no pistons. Is merchant the only sponsor here who builds engines? It seems like alot of bolt on guys but not many extreme engine builds to handle the HP
dmaxlover 07-04-2007, 05:57 PM Pistons you have a few choices. lbz's or lb7s that are modified, or Ross forged pistons.
Most guys seem to be doing there own engine assembly. Any good hi performance machine shops should be able to do any work you might need.
JoshH 07-05-2007, 02:20 AM Because of all the piston problems.Yeah, but how many people who have just swapped a turbo have had piston problems? None that I know of.

there have been several..........pistons are the problem :(
JoshH 07-05-2007, 11:44 AM there have been several..........pistons are the problem :(
All the ones I know of that have had piston problems were also running a second CP3.
