Greetings,
(Still learning):o:
Have just taken ownership of my '07 Silverado Classic LBZ, LT3, etc. w/550 miles so far. and I'd like the opinions/recommendations of you "veterans" here re:
1). Fuel Additive(s) when/what type?, (I'm in CA, ULSD only here I think).
2). Synthetic Oils....?
3). What's a bypass filter...?
4). Best Stuff for rear-end, and how soon should I change it? (I've been told 500 miles by some).
5). Where/how do you folks get your used oil tested/analyzed?
:banghead:
Thanks Much,

1) Stanadyne. Its a simple piece of mind when it gets cold here. Power services are very popular as well.
2)I run Valvoline Premium Blue Extreem fully synthetic. I changed the oil at 2500 miles the first time when I made the switch.
4)I did my rear diff at 2500 miles as well. Valvoline synthetic gear oil
Hope that helped.

For my truck (LB7):
1.) Full time (every fill up) / my blend (in testing mode)
2.) Engine oil is the OEM type
3.) None here
4.) Mobil 1 syn 75w90 in the rear and front diffs
5.) I dont worry about that...overkill in my book....just keep up on changing the oils/fuilds
1) Stanadyne. I might be wrong but I think Stanadyne is the only one the dealer will approve if you use a fuel additive. The dealer even sales it.
2) At this time I run Shell Rotella 15W-40. Don't know if I put enough miles (4000-5000) a year on my truck to fool with Synthetic.
3) Afraid to run a bypass filter, because I am always thinking if its not broke don't mess with it. Sometimes when you add this gadget and that gadget, thats more things to malfunction. Whats the benefit of it, I am sure its longer oil change intervals and cleaner oil. Its a personal preference, just like modifications are. It will take me a long time to see mileage over 100,000. At that rate I think the Duramax might outlast me.
4) Mobil 1 syn 75w90

something that provides a little extra lubrication, all kinds out there. We all have our preferences:)
2). Synthetic Oils....?
Hmmm. preferences again:) .. but going syn. is a good step in general
3). What's a bypass filter...?
Bypass just filters to a particle size that all full flow filters can not because of the rate of flow needed in a full flow. There would be to much restriction, so a bypass filter just takes a portion of the oil and filters it at a much slower rate to get much smaller particles out.
As stated, it prolongs oil life and decrease long term wear that still happens with 15-20 mircron particles. The bypass gets down to 2 microns or so. Also increases your oil sump capacity a qt or 2.
4). Best Stuff for rear-end, and how soon should I change it? (I've been told 500 miles by some).
AMSOIL or Mobil 1 rank right up there. The earlier the better. Usually by 5000 miles, but it can be done earlier, especially if towing.
5). Where/how do you folks get your used oil tested/analyzed?
There are several companies out there. AV Lub. is well represented on this site. AMSOIL also has their own lab(Oil Analyzers, Inc.)
Best of luck. Need any more specifics, just give a shout:)

1. Stanadyne Performance
2. Amsoil 15w-40 on LBZ and 5W-40 on LMM till 15w-40 gets CJ-4 rating.
3. Don't use one.
4. Any synthetic will be fine. The stuff that comes w/ your truck is GM 75w-90 fully-syn, that Mobile, or Amsoil is fine. Changed all my break in fluids at 2k miles. Oil/Oil Filter, Tranny Fluid Flush/ clean magnet and change spin-on filter, fuel filter and rear-diff fluid change. After that I just follow normal maintainence schedule. Oil change and fuel filter every 10k or 1yr whichever comes first (<---I use Amsoil synthetic). Tranny service ab 25-30k miles and same on rear-diff fluid. If u have a 4wd then do the maintainence on that every 50k miles.
5. My local dealership did it for me.

I'll answer 3.
First: blocked EGR so less "soot".
2nd: Added FS2500 Bypass & love it. Oil (dino type, cause it's cheap), lasts me in the 7500-10,000 mile range.
was it worth it.? can't tell ya now, but I'm hoping to get 300K+ out this unit....I believe that those two things may well give me the extra mileage or more.
