I just came from my dealer and he installed newest flash on my computer. Several things, my truck is starting easier. Before I often had to hit starter twice to get truck started. I think performance is same or little better. The fast idle my dealer had no idea what this was. He does now. He enabled this on my truck. It does not have to be cold weather for this to work. It is 65 degrees out right now and my fast idle works. My overhead MPG indicator seems to be a little faster (higher) than it was before.

what does it idle at when fast idle is on, and how does it turn on/off, temperature or what?

Fast idle is 1000-1100rpm. Or press accel button repeatedly and the idle will increase to 1500rpm. To cancel hit your brake.

Hello to all

I recently bought a 2004.5 Laramie here in colorado. My question is when should the high idle kick in? Temps here have fallen to around 30 and my truck never idles above 750RPM. Is it time for the Flash???

Cold weather has nothing to do with fast idle. YOU as the driver enable the fast idle. The flash enables the 2004.5 to make it available to use. When you get in your truck, start it, you then crank up the fast idle, walk back into your house drink your last cup of coffee. Walk back to your truck, climb in, tap your brake, place the thing in GO and drive.

Cumminz - I guess I am not familiar with the Flash concept. Is it a request made by the owner (at an additional cost)? or is it an upgrade/TSB thing from the factory? In my area being able to use the High Idle feature would be advantagous to have.

You request it... usually with a complaint... like poor mileage.

No cost... they connect their computer and walla

Nice!!! I can surely convince them that it has been starting a little rough lately and that my mileage is not that great!!

Your question has already been answered and here is the concept. The computer on your truck is just like your home computer but it does not have a hard drive. The computer has one or several chips that is almost like computer RAM. When you truck is started, one of the first things it does is reads the RAM (which is memory) and the computer follows the instructions that is written there. This memory can be over-written many times. When you (flash) the computer, you make minor changes to this code. Dodge could actually make a few minor adjustments to this code and not advertise it. They only mention the major code changes. For an example, the code could be changed to when you press the speed control button to turn it on, your heater fan would come on. Your computer controls most truck functions.
