: Replacement Engine Warranty
Desertdog 07-01-2007, 01:50 PM Does anyone know if you have a engine replaced at the dealer with a new crate one what the warranty is? My 03 warranty is up next year and my feelings are these trucks are getting to expensive to pay out of pocket. I think that is the worst possibility, I have heard prices of 11-14 thousand to replace. If you get a three or five year warranty might be OK. I have to balance that with doing a trade in now. I'm also thinking of of defecting to a cummins pending some new engine review.
dmaxalliTech 07-01-2007, 02:24 PM used engines are available. Quality rebuilt units are a good option too. Some of them fix all of GM's 'flaws' for a long lasting unit.
Breadburner 07-01-2007, 02:55 PM Whats funny is the engine and transmission is only an 8500.00 option.......

Labour to install the engine would be the rest I assume.
Nathan Muthler 07-01-2007, 03:21 PM New motor from GM has 3yr/100000 mile warranty. Just put one in my 01. Jasper has a rebuild with the same warranty. Its about 1500.00 bucks less.
golfcartguy 07-01-2007, 07:50 PM I think if mine ate itself to death or something else went wrong w/ the engine itself, I'd probably take 'er down to Eric and have him rebuild it for me and do a few improvements like a cam, lower compression pistons, some better con rods, etc etc etc. It'd be better than a new stock engine :D
Nathan Muthler 07-01-2007, 08:01 PM I wish I had thought about that before I had it replaced. I guess my new motor is some hybrid version of the LB7. Im not sure whats all different but Im told it has a different block and heads from the older LB7's. Maybe someone here has some info on it.

That is the up grade price over the price built into the truck for the 6.0 gas.
So 8500.00+ the price of a 6.0.

1500.00 is worth it,not to have a jasper.
Nathan Muthler 07-01-2007, 08:38 PM Ive heard that about Jasper, thats why I got a new one. I heard they like to reuse parts without checking them. Thats just what I heard,I could be wrong.
P Tech 07-02-2007, 01:36 PM You have heard wrong. Go to the Jasper facility and take a tour there Buckeye. Might open your eyes a little.

P Tech did not mean to step on any toes, just personal experiences of friends.
To me you could have the most state of the art facility and still build sub par motors. I am not saying all the motors they make are not good builds it just seems that the failure rate of people I know and acquaintances is to high for me to buy one of their builds. I am sure there are a higher percent that have no problems with their jasper builds, just not a gamble I would be willing to take.
cumminstrokethi 07-02-2007, 10:19 PM I had to replace a engine in my 01 dmax so i put a 03 engine with 57000 mi. in it for $6000 installed
Tim@DOA 07-03-2007, 02:15 PM You have heard wrong. Go to the Jasper facility and take a tour there Buckeye. Might open your eyes a little.Taking a tour and experiencing an engine failure due to a poor build are two entirely different evolutions. A tour does not present anything more than a tour, which is designed to impress those present. ATK and Jasper, for reference, are mass producers, and I've witnessed SEVERAL teardowns revealing poor tollerances, and questionable assembly that were both considered as acceptable.
Nathan Muthler 07-05-2007, 03:34 PM didnt mean to step on your balls P-tech but Ill stick with a new GM motor for an extra 1500.. bucks.with the miles I put on I can take it to a GM dealer and get it replaced if need be. If I have a private garage put a rebuild in and it pukes then Im stuck trying to tow it over a thousand miles at my expense. I had a bad rebuild experience with a 454 from Parts America and I guess Im a little gun shy now. My dads also a GM dealer so I get a discount and that helps. I cant bite the hand that fed me while growing up.

Can you expand on the "flaws" that the rebuilt engines fix? Just curious!
