Anybody have any snow plowing events yet?

I just added a Western salt spreader to my truck.

Gotta change the oil in the Fisher but otherwise I am ready for the snow!

Does anybody else have a plow with pictures?

I should note that the above photo was taken last season. It was a fair season - we got normal average #s of plowable events.

I guess I am on the same page as you ... just have to change the pump oil, check electrical system, test the plow and should be all set. I really need to get a new and better set of tires. Those factory Steeltex don't have any traction in snow, mud, rain, you name it. I'm looking into getting Cooper S/T. What tires do you runs on?

wxmn6.....I am still on the stock wranglers.....they are ok in snow....but I will get different tires when these go bald....got 26000 miles on them now.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Do you have a salt spreader? Last year I spread over 3 tons by handhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley11.gif.

I just got the WESTER Pro Flo 2.

That's cool - I also have Fisher SpeedCaster 2 which is exactly the same as yours. I think I spreaded about 1 1/2 ton of salt last year. Not really much so that's why I was trying to sell it since spring. But now I am thinking about keeping it for at least another winter. Will have to see & think about it.

As for tires ... I have been telling myself to wait until they go bald but at the rate of low mileage I am putting on my truck, it would take forever before I could finally wear them out. I think it would be better to spend the money now and get the tires I always wanted and be happy with it for years to come. Also I don't want to take a chance of getting stuck in snow with slick pizza cutters.

I have a 2500HD reg. cab and was thinking about puting a plow on and was wondering how well the front suspension works with the plow. It would be the 8 foot plow with the clear back and power down. I do not have the snow plow prep. package.

Thanks George

George, if I am not mistaken, those trucks with Duramax already have most of parts that is included in snowplow prep package, due to weight of diesel. Also you have auxiliary battery as part of diesel package which is another plus. Only downside is that GM may not warranty the truck for snowplowing related problems. Of course, if something happens that could be related to snowplow, they have to prove it. Putting a plow on your truck most likely will be pushing to the rated limit, but I'm sure it can handle it. Just be sure to put some ballast in the rear. What plow are you looking at?

Sounds like a Snoway George. They are light as far as plows go so I think it will be no problem at all.

I just bought a Blizzard 810 so no pictures yet, still need to install the dam thing.

I'm in the middle of transferring my Western MVP to the Dodge.

Putting the brackets on now... they call for a 17/32" drill... darn if
anybody sells one. Ended up with a 9/16. Broke three 1/2" drills in the
frame. Drilling from one side, thru the other, darn drill grabs and
just snaps. I'll be done with the brackets tommorrow. Electrical next.

Puttin the 810 on the Chevy?

Yeah its a Snoway. Can't remember the model # though. Thanks for the input guys, still thinkin about it. A friend has it for sale, $2000 and only used a couple times. Is that a good deal?

Blizzard 810's are very heavy, My Brother in-law has 1 on a 2001 350 SD ford 4 door long bed 4x4 and 1 on a 2003 3500 dodge 4dr long bed 4x4 with plow prep. and they squat the trucks really good. Even with a lot of weight in the back. Edited by: torquet

Hoot, The dril bit breaking reminds me of when I upsized the bolts on my cutting edge and broke 3 of them doing it. They are not cheap when you get over 1/2 in for good ones.

I have a 9'6" fisher v blade on mine. Handles it fine. an 8'er will be no problem.

Take a look at fishers site, i believe they have a new pic with the new fishstick. I think they are selling both versions though still.

Snow way is a pretty lite weight plow.

I run timbrens and balast btw. If you put timbrens on take em off if you head to the drag strip. They kill 60's

Gotta love the Ultramount. You can't get much cleaner.

And I know I sound like I'm bragging but I'll tell you what, the bumper
on this truck is a piece of cake to remove and reinstall... and not a
spec of rust behind it.

Just to be curious, how do you lift/lower the plow? Hydraulically, with electrical pump?

BTW, what does such a thing weigh?

I run BF Goodrich all terrains on my dodge now and they are the best tires if have run in the snow. I'm going to buy a set for my GMC when it finally gets here.

Anyone have any problems with the front ends on the truck after a bad winter. Also I have heard a lot of guy's are bottoming out on the plow frames. Any info on this?

hoot
11-24-2004, 06:48 AM
You just have to watch your speed especially on dips and dip/turns. Also be carefull of cement curbs that are meant to me driven over.

My Dodge frame is way up and out of the way... way more that the GMC was but with the plow on it still has some low hanging parts.

I need to get me a plow on the Kodiak.. 3 inches of wet snow, so far, in IN.

hoot

Trust me MAC, it's the camera angle and the wheels being turned cause the change. Straight on its perfect. The plow ends are a good 3" higher off the ground when folded than on the GMC.

But than you guys can't think in terms of SOLID AXLE. Weight on the front has almost no effect on alignment unless something is worn out.
See now I got find another pic pric.

Alignment is right on bud. Tires are only wearing in the rear :D :ro) :p

why do you put ballast in the rear? I've been plowing for 16 years and never put ballast in the rear of my plow trucks.

hoot
11-25-2004, 08:12 AM
No Maximum  but Dmax guys always take it that way :p

MAC...

The leveling kit, which is 2" by the way, is strictly cosmetic but does help out with the plow. No different than cranking the bars max and adding timbrens on the GMC except the Dodge ends up sitting up higher. It also remains nearly level with the weight.

zsqure,

Depends on how heavy of a truck and plow you run. The better plows weight over 700lbs with the bigger ones closer to 900/1000 lbs. Hang that weight a few feet off the front of the truck and you throw the truck off to the point of being dangerous in emergency situations. On the GMC I had about 600lbs worth of sand tubes in the bed to keep me from doing burnouts on harder acceleration and to get back a safe driving feel.

It's just safer and in the snow you get better traction. Not to mention if you read the manual that the plow comes with they tell you how much ballast you must use.

Little more squat don't ya think..... this is cranked bars and timbrens on the GMC, same plow ...
