: How to Unprogram Remote Panic Button
BH in AZ 10-21-2004, 04:11 AM My 2004 HD truck came with the remote keyless entry system. The remote unit has a red "panic" button that, when pushed, causes the horn to go off.
I keep setting it off acidentally with other stuff in my pocket, etc. I suspect I am not the only one that has this happening.
Does anyone know how to change the programming to deactivate the red "panic" button. I could not find anything in the manual.
Thanks for the help.
nassdmax 10-21-2004, 07:48 AM open up the transmitter like you are replacing the battery, and place a bit of electrical tape over the contact that controls the panic. The button is basically a piece of conductive material that goes and contacts two terminals on the circut board completing the circuit once pressed. All you need to do is prevent the contact. Completely reversible!

Idle_Chatter 10-21-2004, 07:50 AM I had the same problem, the little red panic button was just too sensitive and would go off all the time. I took a very simplistic approach - take the fob off the ring and you'll see a coin slot in the side that pops it open. Under the buttons there is a contact patch on the printed circuit board. I put a little patch of black plastic electrical tape about 1/4" square over the contact patch in both fobs - No more honking!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
gearhead 10-21-2004, 08:59 AM great idea, mine has been driving me nuts http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif untill now. this place is great
WanaDmxsub 10-21-2004, 10:19 AM Put your keys where the 3yr old can't reach them...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
Mitchagain 10-21-2004, 11:48 AM With all the white (ugh) Dmax's in the parking lots, its the only way I can find mine! Wife says its a 50 year old thing to just annoy the hell out of her and others.... yea, so????
BH in AZ 10-21-2004, 01:08 PM WanaDmxsub ... hiding the keys won't work in this case, since I am the "three year old" in question!
Nassdmax and Idle_Chatter ... I followed your suggestion of sticking tape on the circuit board and now, no more panic button. I thank you, my friends and family thank you, my neighbors thank you, and my local mugger thanks you.
The after market alarm on my car allows the panic button to be programmed to and "off" state. I was thinking GM would also have that feature, but I guess not.
Again, thanks for the suggestion. It works!

haneym 10-21-2004, 02:41 PM i do the same freaking thing all the time. the panic on my wifes accord key is inset, so you have to use your finger nail to push it. ours is out in the open and ive set it off at least 5 times in the month ive owned it! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
Idle_Chatter 10-21-2004, 02:54 PM I can still locate my truck without the panic button - just hit the "lock" button a couple of times and the horn will beep once and the marker/signal lamps will light! Very good for those of us suffering from "sometimers"http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif Edited by: Idle_Chatter
Got Juice? 10-21-2004, 03:12 PM I had a legitimate use for my 'PANIC' button
I was at a Show n Shine / Dyno event and someone was looking for a hidden bottle or trick on my DMX.
I waited until his head was under the hood!
Then i hit the button!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Let's just say it works really well!
Scotch tape is even cleaner. First time I set mine off accidentally was 3 in the morning, staggering around in the garage in my bathrobe looking for something. The horn was so loud in the confined space I damn near had a heart attack. Second time was 2 am in a quiet campground- earned me lots of friends with that one... Taped it up next morning.
BE HONEST, JUICE- He was looking for the 'grips http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifEdited by: jonb

Well Maybe that is true, but he had a TST box and wanted to know why i dynoed higher than he did out of one box.
LOL... juicegrips were safety wired shut in the bottom of the toolboxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Wayne Dohnal 10-21-2004, 08:52 PM I removed the molded red button and sliced about half its thickness off, It's still available but doesn't go off by accident anymore.
Another great example of GM engineering!

TEXMudder 10-22-2004, 12:01 AM Great post! I set mine off by accident all the time. My remote opens tomorrow and I hope to never have that feature again.
bigdog 10-29-2004, 08:28 AM Too Funny!!! I thought I was the only one that had this problem. I seem to "find" that red button a lot which then sets the dogs into a frenzy.. I'll have to try that tape trick..
This is my kind of high tech fix! Thanks
TEXMudder 10-30-2004, 02:26 PM Scotch tape works great!
