I have an 04 and wanted to put on the new 07 double bar, boxy mirrors. I called the dealer and they quoted me 500 bucks not installed. But then they back peddled and said that they received a bulletin saying that if you install them it can cause a shutdown of your 'control computer' and nothing would work. Mirrors, door locks, windows ect.

Even if you have a tech II flash the doors it will still cause the meltdown.

Does this make any sense to anybody on why it would happen.

Long story short they wouldn't sell them to me.

Your dealer is full of S!!!
I don't see the part about computer meltdown in this GM Bulletin.
Subject:Switching Mirrors From Power Folding To Extending - keywords door left right - (10/25/2006)

Models:2003-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2003-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic
2003-2007 GMC Sierra Classic
2003-2006 GMC Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali XL

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers/dealers have inquired about the new power folding, electro chromic, outside rear view mirrors (RPO DL3), and if they can switch to the new extending outside camper style mirrors (RPO DPF or DPN)? The answer is yes, however, the dealer must also reprogram both the driver's door module and the passenger door module to accommodate this change. Also, if the vehicle has redundant steering wheel controls, the DIC (Driver Information Center-Curb view assist message) must be deleted by reprogramming the Truck Body Control Module (TCBM).
Important: When installing the Power Camper Mirrors (RPO DPF or DPN) the memory mirror feature will be lost. Only the Power Folding Mirrors (RPO DL3) have memory features.
Note: Starting in 2006 the Power Camper Mirror (RPO DPF) is no longer available and was replaced by the Vertical Camper Mirror (RPO DPN). The DPN mirror has power adjustable glass, heated, manual folding and extending, includes turn signal indicator and lower convex spotter glass (convex glass is not heated.) These mirrors can be installed on previous models.
The DPN, DPF, and DL3 mirrors all can be interchanged as long as the DDM, PDM and if necessary the BCM are programmed with the correct mirror option being installed. On some 2006 and 2007 models with the factory installed DPN mirrors, if the DL3 mirrors are installed the DDM may need to be replaced due to the lack of hardware within the DDM.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

This is where I bought mine from. http://gmaccessories-direct.com/

Little pricey but I needed them for towing and didnt want aftermarket ones. I had no problems at all. Plug and Play!

I don't think the GMT-900 mirrors will work on GMT-800 trrucks. I believe the mount points are different and the windshield slope is different.

That writeup is for 2006-2007 GMT-800 Mirrors. The 2007.5 (GMT-900) mirrors are different.

Maybe at THAT dealer, it causes a meltdown by them trying to flash and not knowing how its done!

Correct, the 900's will not work on the 800's. The point of posting that link was to show that the style he wants will work.
