I went to NAPA today and sure enough 1 battery was dead http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif
and I had been thinking that for some time. They had their
version of the optima and was $107 for 770 CCA and 2 year return with
84 month warranty. I found a red-top optima in town but was
$144. Warranty was 3 year. I could not justify spending an
extra $34 for 1. Will it hurt to buy my second battery in the
next several months. It tested good.

Something like this really needs to be replaced as a set. Matched technology. My personal take is to go w/the Optima. Shop around, Costco, whatnot and get a pair. I can't prove it but I bought one of the knockoffs ~ think it was Kragen Orbital and it was disappointing. Couldn't prove it tho and couldn't get an exchange. Yes, this is only a single instance but now that I've installed the redtops, I think the confidence is worth it. Lucky for me, my source sold them to me for at the same discount given law enforcement/firefighters.

Try SAM's for red tops.

I got 2 red tops from Sam's for a total of $241 with all the fees and core stuff. The 2 year warranty batteries are OLD, so don't buy them. Now they all come with a 3 year 84 month prorated warranty.
