: Oil Guard Filter System
Bill Gisse 10-20-2004, 05:36 PM Oil Guard has a new kit out for the Duramax that pipes the return oil from thier filter back to a special oil filler cap. That allows easier oil draining and use of the FUMOTO. Cost $270 if I remember right. Edited by: Bill Gisse
a bear 10-20-2004, 09:29 PM I couldn't wait that long so I done it many moon's ago. Works great!

SaguaroKid 10-20-2004, 09:38 PM Great looking job...
coyotekid 10-20-2004, 11:22 PM Yes, that's a really good looking setup there.
Any of you guys use a pre-luber of some sort?

Just curious, what is the advantage of returning oil through the filler tube? To keep the Fumoto? And does the 90 fitting in the cap swivel to easily remove it? Thanks
a bear 10-21-2004, 10:12 AM Yes, The main reason was to Keep the fumoto valve and not having an open line to the pan with the potential to break it off and loose my oil. The original fitting that connects to the pan has a small ID which would make draining a slow process and also leaves a little of the old oil in there. Another advantage is that at each oil change you can check for returns with the engine running to be sure the 40/1000 orifice in the filter hasn't plugged. So far mine hasn't.
No swivel yet but I plan on installing one at the next oil change. This would be conveinant. Bill Plock has the PN number for a nice swivel that I will be using. There are many to choose from.

TC Dmax 10-21-2004, 02:50 PM Here are a couple of pictures of what the swivel fitting looks
like. I borrowed Bill's idea of using the swivel when
I did my install. Not sure how to size the pictures but hope they
give you an idea of what it looks like installed. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/TCDmax/2004-10-21_114605_Swivel_Fitting.jpghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/TCDmax/2004-10-21_114630_Swivel-Fitting.jpg

At one time I was going to braze a fitting in the side of the filler tube. May still do it when I decide witch filter im gonna use. Like to find one that removes the soot. I found a spinner that will mount great in the extra altnator area but it requires a 1" drain back line and has to flow down hill. These work great as they will get all the solids out of the oil as well as the soot. oil stays clean all the time and can run extended draines per a major truck line here in OKC OK.
Frank Blum 10-21-2004, 07:37 PM Nice setup a bear. It sure was nice of GM to give us a spare place to bolt on all our goodies. Later! Frank

Oilguard said if you put a clamp on a fitting of that type you cut the
hose and risk having the line cut through. It also voided the OG
warranty.

Geno,
My mechanic said he will send the pics of the solids/soot that the spinner will remove. I should have them over the weekend to post for all to see. These things really get the job done. The stuff removed is thick black paste.
Frank,
Also looks like the Lone Eagle spot is getting popular. That was a good find. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gifEdited by: a bear

What got me lookin at them is they are standard equipment on V H P waukesha's and I have seen them on 36 series cats. The one I have Is about the size of the oil filter all I got to do is find a way to return the oil. The paste you spoke of, you have to cut a chunk of it out to send in for testing cause there is nothing in the oil
a bear 10-21-2004, 09:16 PM We run them on the Waukesha-7042-P9390 as well as the Cats and Detroits. The paste is predominatly Soot & Carbon with a small amt of normal wear metals that got past the fullflow filters. Oil changes are based on oil analysis which is rare.
You gonna be at the Gulf Coast show, I think it is March or there abouts, We will be there as a vendor, we do a lot for Gulf Offshore and make it ever time. Lets hook up Ill buy Dinner an drinks if you Indulge
a bear 10-21-2004, 10:20 PM I went the last couple years. If I'm home I'll more than likely be there. We can definitely hook up and drink some (many) cold ones. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif Will probably tow the camper there.

Funny, if for some reason the hose came off and did damage ( which can happen) they will do nothing for you. I put a clamp on every hose.

Mike,
PC is correct. that's not a regular barbed fitting on that hose.. its a push lok fitting with slightly larger & sharper barbs. Parker hannifin says not to use a clamp on a push lok or it can cut the hose with the barbs...
Black Max 10-22-2004, 08:14 AM Thanks to PC for the info on those fittings. I have seen an improved version of the old standby hose clamp made specically for fuel injection hose I believe. It doesn't have all the little "slots" for the worm gear along the band, but is smooth and doesn't chew up the hose. A little pricier, but much improved, and gives a "cleaner" look for those installs that require a clamp.
