: Transmission Limp Mode

I started my truck this afternoon to go on an errand and discovered the transmission shifting very hard. It would also hold a gear and not downshift. I turned off the truck (in the IT industry, they call that a hard reboot) and everything returned to normal. No warning or other indicator lamps. Have not checked for codes yet. Very peculiar behavior from an otherwise trouble-free transmission.

Qs:

What causes limp mode in the trans?

Anything I should be concerned about?

I did like the way it shifted. Perhaps time for a trans kit from transgo?

Sounds like what ever sloenoid controls line pressure shorted for a minuite.

could be the in/out speed sensors on the trans also. if you want firmer shifts try the b&m shift plus, only costs about $40, splices into 2 wires at the ecu behind glove box, and has 3 switchable positions. stock, firm, and whiplash.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

i would agree with lupey on the shiftplus. well worth the 40 dollars. i leave mine on firm most of the time because i like the firmer shift. very easy installation.

Thanks everyone. I cleaned 2 of the three sensors when I changed the transfer case output shaft seal a couple of months ago.

I found an interceptor module that plugs into the harness and it looks like it does the same thing. It costs about $140.00. Here (http://www.kdsperformance.com/inelmo4l94.html) is the link.

I wonder what it does differently from the B&M product that they feel they can command a $90.00 premium?Edited by: SuperTuscan
