I have a 2006 chevy kodiak 4500 4x4 with the monroe package. The compressor for the air seats has gone out once a month every month. The dealer replaces it, but I am the one faced with missing work to have it continually fixed. The warranty is about up and this seems to be an unfixable problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

I use a Viair 12 volt compressor that I bought off ebay. It is the 380C model that is 100% duty. Been on for over 2 years and runs my train horns, air seats. Also picked up a 2 gallon tank cheap too.

Can you say lemon.... "LEMON!" I'd tell the dealer I want a reliable compressor put in and you want him to start compensating you for your time you have to take away from work to have them do a job they obviously didn't do right the first time.
Just my $.02

I had the same issue there was a tysb for a wire harness and relay assembly for the compressor that fixed it

They had changed the relay, but it still hadnt helped. I have also had to take it in to have the lights on the roof fixed so they stop leaking water and another time to have the air conditioning fixed. The problems may seem minor, but it has been a real pain in the you know where considering this is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased and I rely on it for my business.

I ditched the OEm unit too. Added another tank, linked it to to the OEM one and installed a new compressor:

No problems since.

Sounds like a good alternative, but it seems that for the money you pay for these trucks you shouldnt have to do that.
Just my opinion

Its a GM. I expect to have to play. Any optional OEM system is not going to be as robust as the best aftermarket gear. Knowing what I know I would not order the air items from the factory I would install them myself like I ended up doing for the cabmate and larger comp

We just experienced this problem on our 05' with Monroe conversion. The relief valve was sticking open and burned out the relay. There was apparently a TSB on this and the dealer replaced both. So far so good...hope it doesn't become a continuous problem...

Thanks John,
Only took a three hour trip and two days...service for these things is not that easy to locate!!!
Not to mention, since it's a "new" 05' and the start date on the warranty was listed as 4/3/05 instead of 6/29/07, when we actually bought it, it took our selling dealer to pay the bill in order to get coverage!!
Can't understand why it takes 7-10 days for GM to correct this in their computers!!
