I have a 01 2500 dmax with the Allison. I notice a tranny leak around 35k miles. Had it fixed, torque converter bolts. Somewhere around 45k same thing. Had it fixed, coverter bolts. 55k, guess what, same thing only I took it to a different dealer. They said that the previous job was messy and probably wasn't done right. They fixed it, converter bolts. I have 63k now and just noticed another leak, in the same spot. What is going on! Talked to the dealer and they don't seemed worried, almost like this is normal? What is the problem? How can I have the dealer fix it? Do I need a new tranny, new truck, or a new dealership? Any thoughts, experience, or advise will be helpfull

first, converter bolts wont leak, only cause a leak. If the converter bolts were loose, the converter could have wobbled a bit in the front support and the ground shaft bushing could be worn. Also the two bottom most bolts that hold the converter housing to the main housing of the trans have a tendancy to leak. Need to remove trans to get to them, but fix is to put a copper washer on them similer to a brake hose washer.

Rip that leaky stinker out of there and Suncoast it!

New convertor.......better design.........get a good builder to do the work (like dmaxallitech) and move it on. I am not happy that an HD truck needs this treatment but that is the fix.

GM TC design is crap. Have you see the long legs on those bolt mounts? the bolts get a little loose and the torque just peels back the cover like an orange. = puke oil everywhere.

I had a 2003 2500 replaced by GM because they could not find the leak before I had enough. In dealership 4 times for 8 of the first 13 weeks of ownership. Thats a different story.

What did fix the problem was a flex plate or the flywheel. They dont know which because they changed both at once. One or the other was out of round causing a very small vibration only leaking after a good 150 miles or so. 30 mile trips would not let it leak.

Could be yours as well???

Mine had that problem last summer @ 108,000km with one of the six
pads. Relaced with Suncoast Tripple... Now I can feel it
lock like a kick in the butt. Leak's gone too!

However, he said that the problem was "fixed" several times without
changing the converter. Could be that removing and putting new
screws back in wiggled the defective pad a little and reduced the
leak for a while. Mine was pooring, difficult to miss!

Looks like a cracked bolt mount leaking.

Getbent, is your engine stock? I have a friend who has a torque converter rebuild shop, and he says that leaks are common on converters w/extra power. The extra torque flexes the front of the converter and cracks the cover around the pads. The fix? A billet front end. However, my friend doesn't have the triple friction setup yet. He says that they are not trouble free either. The notches in the converter that hold the steel friction plates wear and eventually spin out.

Marcdeluca, Yes my engine is stock, I've been having these leaking problems ever since I bought the damn thing. Didn't think it be a good idea to beef it up just yet. However, after a long talk with the dealer, today it went back in. I'll post with any new info.
