Those of you who have upgraded your allison and later sold or traded in the truck, did you end up just taking the upgrade as a loss?

Or, did you find that if you sold the truck private party, you recouped some of the cost.

I am considering doing a SC III or IV to my 2003. My concern is that in 2 years, I MIGHT want to get a new(er) truck. So the cost per year to do the upgrade is about $2k. I'd lose this on top of the depreciation of the truck.

So, I am wanting your all feedback on what made you decide to do the upgrade now, instead of waiting for the "next" new truck.

I originally had planned to wait until my OEM and extended warranty expired before I did any upgrades. That is about to happen in the next month or two.

If you want to run some good power through your truck for the next couple of years without worry, I say do it. If not, don't bother and put that money towards your new truck. You will miss out on some fun for two years and you only live once. ( Jury is still out on that one. )

I had a built tranny in my dodge.. I voted sold truck at a loss due to the fact that there is no way what I sold if for would have covered what I had in it. As Mike said you only live once :D

Thanks Mike.

I guess my hestancy comes from the injection pump and injectors just being replaced under warranty....that could mean trouble free operating for 2-3 years or bad luck on the horizon again.

However, I'll soon have no truck payments.

Or, go ahead, get a new truck, upgrade it and enjoy it from the get go. Although I am not a fan of the LMM and its degeneration cycle.

I guess you have to ask yourself, how much is FUN worth to you? I don't know of any automotive hobby that's fun that doesn't cost something. To me, it was worth every penny if I only had the truck six months after installing the new tranny. I don't want a new truck now so I'm saving even more money. Only you can answer your question. Good Luck
