steiner43511 10-20-2004, 08:18 AM i would like to give blackstone labs a thanks for the analysis. i was very happy to read the results.

w_huisman 10-20-2004, 09:04 AM Try using http://www.tinyurl.com to make a smaller link out of it.
salesrep 10-20-2004, 10:00 AM I cannot get it either. I'd love to see the numbers though.
steiner43511 10-20-2004, 10:03 AM hold on a sec im workin on it. computer is actin up.

steiner43511 10-20-2004, 10:48 AM no we dont need any wolverines!!!!!!!
EQUIPMENT MAKE: GM
EQUIPMENT MODEL: 6.5 Liter
FUEL TYPE: Diesel
OIL USE INTERVAL: 3,034 Miles
OIL TYPE & GRADE: Schaeffer 7000 15W/40
MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 2 qts
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Turbo
COMMENTS:
ADAM: We've found this particular 15W/40 is one that does not have a propensity to shear down in viscosity with use in certain engines. Otherwise, all the oils you mentioned are of excellent quality and should serve your 6.5L engine's needs well. Universal average wear is based on a 4,025 mile oil use run. You've run short of that and your wear is excellent at this point, with iron reading at about 1/4th average. The other metals were at or better than average levels. Suggest going on up to 4,500 miles for your next oil use cycle. No harmful contaminants found.
SAMPLE DATE: 10/8/04
Miles on oil: 3,034
Miles on unit: 107,634
I'm having problem getting the numbers on here. It keeps messing up.
The property test results showed that the oil had higher viscosity than average, higher flashpoint than average, less fuel dilution (0.5%), no antifreeze, no water, and 0.2% insolubles.
The big thing i like is the fuel dilution. They said that less than 2.0% is recommended and i sure did pass that. Edited by: steiner43511
salesrep 10-20-2004, 10:57 AM Adam .I would definetly go 4500 next change. Don't be surprised if they suggest going to 6k or 7k after that.

steiner43511 10-20-2004, 10:59 AM the only question i have is since i dont use a bypass filtration setup, would it be good to change the oil filter half way through the next oil use cycle? how long will a filter really filter?
radrecon69 10-20-2004, 10:59 AM Why didn't you use the Schaffer oil Analysis program. When or if I ever get my Dually back ( been in for an oil leak for over a month now) I am going to try that Schaffer oil and then start using their oil analysis program. The price is right.
RickEdited by: radrecon69
salesrep 10-20-2004, 11:06 AM Use a good filter and there will be no need to change filter even if you go to 10k and up.
Sorry about the wolverine comment.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif Myself a buckeye fan as well.
steiner43511 10-20-2004, 11:10 AM but what is a good filter? i always read about people ripping on fram, but i have never had a problem with them. my last truck had 107,000 miles on it with all fram filters, and my first truck has a over 170,000 miles on it and all it has ever had was the cheap orange fram filters. truck still sits at home and runs like it was brand new. a little bowtie pride.
salesrep 10-20-2004, 11:17 AM baldwin/hastings or wix which I'm pretty sure also makes the napa gold. Edited by: salesrep
steiner43511 10-20-2004, 11:20 AM guess ill try a napa gold/wix since i cant get a baldwin locally.
whats the price of the schaeffers oil analysis? the blackstone labs test is only 20 bucks.
bowtie 10-20-2004, 05:48 PM ok here goes the questions. Where can you find this oil ? how much for the oil? how much for the oil analysis program? how does that work?
salesrep 10-20-2004, 06:17 PM Me,$2.92 per quart , down to$10.78 per gal.. $7.50 per uoa: Just send it in postage pd. and wait 3-5 days for a report.Edited by: salesrep
bowtie 10-20-2004, 06:26 PM what weight (15w-40)are we talking about? What is a uoa, and how do you get the oil analysis program started and how much shipping for two gallons to OK. Is there any where else to get this oil locally?
salesrep 10-20-2004, 06:41 PM 15-40 , used oil analysis, i do not know if there is a retailer in your area or not. Probably not. We sell by the case only. Min order is $45 case of 12 is $35. plus shipping.
steiner43511 10-20-2004, 10:31 PM i get the schaeffers supreme 7000 15w40 for $2.72 a quart at carquest.
i am curious about the schaeffers uoa. can anybody get it for $7.50 or just reps? does an independent lab do the test? what all is analyzed?
salesrep 10-21-2004, 07:06 AM You can only get the analysis thru reps. It is our in house lab tests just about everything but tbn. We also have an out of house lab, that is avaiable with tbn and results can be pulled up thru the web.
There is a rising trend of fleets and industry to have uoa's to predict oil efficiency and to limit any damage before it expands or gets worse.
Turbine Doc 10-21-2004, 08:09 PM Just got back my 2nd sample since owning the truck, bought at 37K miles, installed a AMZOIL bypass rig at 42K, adapted to run Baldwin filters 1st sample May this year at 81917mi, approx 4k mi on the oil, results said fine next oil change double interval latest sample 1st week Oct oil has 6395 hrs on it, sample says oil still good, will check again at 7500 mi and go from there. Running Shell Rotella 15W-40 Dino oil bought in 5 gal pail was cheapest way to go $35 IIRC. I usually run Shell or Chevron Delo. results of the 2 tests are here I sent a message to Shell with the results to get theri opinion how much longer I go on this batch of oil. Oil sample kit was bought www.lubespecialist.com (http://www.lubespecialist.com) $19 IIRC includes bottle-postage-and tests have to call for current price

steiner43511 10-22-2004, 08:01 PM you could use some more moly. molybdenum has been provin to be the best anti-wear element you can put in an oil. the universal average for moly at a 4,025 mile oil change is 13 ppm. my analysis showed i had 80 ppm at 3,034 miles. the schaeffers is packed full of moly.
been looking at oil filter tests and prices and i think im gonna try an acdelco. nice lookin filter at a very reasonable price compared to amsoil or k&n, it is even cheaper than a wix. the only thing it doesnt have is a silicon anti drain back valve that some of the wix's have. Edited by: steiner43511
gmctd 10-22-2004, 11:57 PM Of prime import, no matter where the vehicle is driven, is silicates content - dust and dirt ingested via air filter and leaks in sealed crankcase ventilation system.
Construction sites and other off-road use require dedicated close attention to silicate content, particularly where extended oil change intervals are recommended across the board.
8oz of STP Red per oil change will supply adequate moly without adding excessive thickener, as in STP Blue.
quantum mechanic 10-23-2004, 11:37 AM Your potassium and zinc levels were reduced a little, any thoughts on this?
salesrep 10-29-2004, 02:27 PM Everything looks pretty good except possibly the two most important items. The iron and lead. Although this is only two samples the trend is going the wrong direction. 19 to 59 on the iron with only 6.5k on it. The add pkg is curious to me zinc and p went down while calcium and mg went up. Next sample or two should tell more.
