: PIA Air Dam or Pre-runner light bars

I am in need of technical input.

I am looking to boost up my lighting on the truck. With winter coming and us heading up into mountains the regular headlights are just not enough. When it snows trees fall and am forced to clear the road, sometimes late at night. I am not a big mod guy and want to keep it simple. However I definitely want the light power. What wattage lights can you install in the PIA air Dam? and are the functional that low? I like the clean look. On the Pre-Runner bar I can run anything I want but not sure if the look of the set up is what I want. I was considering Hella units at 100 Watts.

Input appreciated

Thanks DMax friends

What about a roll bar style, with lights on it? Would love to do
myself, but have a roll up tonneau cover thats more important to me.

On edit......

Plus the outside lights could be pivotted to illuminate off to the side.

I like the style and illumination of the Pia airdam. I actually backed down the wattage as people were flashing me,could be taken care of with alignment I'm sure.Or if you were to use primarily off road wouldn't matter.

The stock wiring has a relay so the factory switch can be used.Yes the are quite bright but with 55 watt lamps the KD light harness with all guns blazing will lesson the illumination. This makes installation a breeze.

My only gripe is the bulbs do not last, vibration I think is part of the issue.

Mac,

I have heard the same about the bulbs not lasting in the Airdam. I believe vibration is the culprit as well. I think one of my concerns was when I get up along this long, windy road in the snow late at night, I may want to rotate lights a bit off center and not sure if this is possible with PIA set up. I plan on joining the volunteer fire department up where our cabin is and want to be able to get where I need and have some lights. Obviously with the light bar out front you can swivel with ease. This will be used in what I would consider an 'Off Road" application. I do not plan on ever using on street. But again I like the stock, clean look of the PIA.

Max Owner: That concept was discussed but as Dually owner I just do not think a roll bar in a Long Bed, CC, Dually looks right. A 2500HD, with lift kit, absolutelyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

I will look at a few more options.

Any other inputs still appreciated.

I have the PIAA airdam on my truck, with the round, clear 520 SMR fog
lights. Here's some pics...

I have the PIAA air dam with the crystal ion 520's, (in PICS). I have run mine for over two years now on the same bulbs and the lighting is great.

Well Thanks for all the input.

I went with the PIAA 520 Crystal Ion Lights but did not buy the Air Dam. I welded up some bracket extensions for the PIAA mounting hardware and mounted them on top of the bumper. I shy'd away from the airdam as I wanted versatility in rotating the lights off center should I require it. PIAA has a very nice kit I must say. Harness is very well thought out and made. I installed the entire thing in about 3 hrs including bracket and bumper modifications. Lights are very nice and powerful. Although with street lights you cannot really see how much it helps, but when I went over to the local school to use the side of the gym to set the bulb angles it was very nice.

This should suffice for what I will need. Many thanks DMax'ers

For all that bought the PIAA set up, where did you mount the on/off button? I still have this loose as I was not sure where I wanted it mounted..What happened to the good ol days where you could mount foot switches for lights. I hate everything on the dash and steering column.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

What about just below where the 4X4 electronic controls go? To
left of steering wheel. There should be a small plastic panel
that is blank. May have a switch for factory fog lights
there. Mine has no auxillary lighting, yet, so not sure.
