: Best Mud Tires for our Heavy Trucks

What is everyones thoughts for the best mud tire to put on these heavy trucks that we drive? I'll have to go with the Duelers. I had them on a 1/2 ton truck that was unstoppable through the mud. I had 26,000 miles on them with only 25% treadwear before my truck was totaled. Please consider the following before voting:

Dry handling, Wet handling, Mud handling, Gravel handling, Tire wear, Ride comfort, Cornering stability and Noise comfort.

P.S. I am sorry if I forgot any tires.Edited by: dmaxfan

go with the bfg's and sipe them. discount tire will do it for $10 a tire. really, helps with the wet traction.

I run studded 265/75 buckshots in the winter.

The also have a E rated 265/85-16 which is over 33" tall.

I run General MT on the wife's H2, work real well and cheap too (less than $100).

I would have said the superswampers, but the wear on them is terrible. If all you're doing is mudding and off road, these are the ones; I've run them, but if you're doing ANY highway travel, they're only gonna last about 12,000 KM

Supper swamper makes the best mud tire. Boggers or TSL's depending on what you are in. hawgs and maxxis aint bad either and they seem to wear better. thornbirds are a disgrace to the interco name.

Now if you want a deccent tire that does other things other than sling the goo you might wana ditch the boggers for something else. Lotsa people say they want the best mud or off road tire yet they really dont want or need one. Things that make something rock off road make em suck on the road. The "mud terrain" tires doo pretty deccent at both, JMO

The Dunlop Mud Rover's have treated me well. The price for 255/85/16's can't be beat! They were about $115 a piece with shipping from Tirerack.

My brother in laws F**d is used on and off road to pull hay wagons and grain wagons, etc. on the farm and the BFG's have been the best all around especially pulling 6-8 ton hay wagons on farm roads and soft fields. The Dunlops he had on before chunked off pretty badly in under 15,000 miles so he went back to the BFG's.

I just added a set of 305/70-17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's on H2 wheels
to my HD (see pics before lift at
http://www.mcttrucks.com/torquemonster )

Love the look! Will get to try them out soon, but from everything
I have read they are going to offer about the best blend of balls to
the wall off road traction along with resonable road manners and
treadwear

I'm with 1bad01, ProComp X-Terrains.. noisey as all hell at high speeds, but I've never had a problem with traction with these.

Too bad they dont make a 20" rim with 37 or 38's :(

Pro-comp m/t 30k+ miles and treadwear is almost nil... close to 35% of this is with trailer hooked up. Pull good, good wet traction, balance fairly well(less than 5 ounces weight)... best thing is they put wife to sleep in about 5 miles

Anyone ran both the Duelers and BFG M/T's? Which ones held up the best?

ockgator, where did you get the pro-comp's?

Ditto ...don't have them but my brother does on his 04. Bad ass tire, relatively quiet and long tread life for a M/T ..but pricey.

I've had pretty decent luck with my 285 Toyo M55's. Damn tough tire, I'm off-road all the time on bad gravel and in the woods, haven't had any rock punctures or side wall punctures from limbs yet. And usually I've ruined two tires by now. Do decent in the mud, excellent snow tires, you generally have to pay for them a little bit though. Just my two cents. J-HEFF

I would say the best deal concerning price vs wear would be Buckshots, Mud Kings, and General MT. All of them can be had for $125 a piece or so and they wear excellent. I think I am gonna go with some Buckshots next time.

I had buckshots on mine and they were great... Surprisingly low noise in cab as well... I'd buy them again if I were looking for a mud tire....

Dmaxfan, you can get them at any BFG dealer. These tires are an off brand of BFG. I personally run the Sport Kings on my trucks. 285/75R16 D are $93 bucks.
