I hate to be a bearer of bad news but check your injector driver module,Iwork for a municipal transit system using E series cutaways and every time we have had this prob. it has been the IDM usually full of water due to mounting location, not sure where it is mounted on an F series but probably still susceptible to it.take it loose from the mount point and shake it a little if water is in it you will hear it.

Test your injectors, while the truck is running, crack the lines one at a time, when the truck doesn't change its idle, thats the magic one.

I also want to know how you got a jake brake on that little old motor?

Take it too a dealer....my buddy had this porblem with his 97 PSD and it was like #4 injector was not firing.....The dealer has a really good diag toolhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

On a 94-97 ( 1st gen PSD engines) the injectors are internal to the heads. How do you crack fuel lines....the only way I know how to do it is a injector test is done with a diag tool... ?????

It sounds like a bad injector. you can't crack the lines because it doesn't have lines hooked to the injectors. The injectors get fuel from a rail in the head. you need a scan tool to see which injector it is. Be sure to drain the oil passages in the head by letting it drain out the plug in the high pressure pump. If not oil will fill up the cylinder the injector is taken out of and it will hydrolock the engine. Be warned injectors are pricey. Happy to help!!!

Need to have the truck hooked up to a scanner and checked for codes. Possibly something with aftermarket Jake setup is making the EBP sensor unhappy. Make sure they do full test, KOEO, KOER, Memory Codes and Cyl Contribution, I'm sure they will find something. Also check fuel supply pressure at the filter base, most any fuel shop will know how to hook a gauge up to check it.

I just remembered another way to check for bad injectors w/out a scan tool. I've got a temp. gun that shows temp. of what you point the gun at. Check the exhaust manifold at each cylinder. The cold one is your miss.

Is that the year that has the inj wiring in the rocker cover gasket? If so, I do know the connection inside the cover is known to go bad.

Yeah, they do have wiring going through the head gaskets if I remebered right. I just fxed one today that was missing on 2 cylinders on the same head and it turned out to be a bad injector harness. The clip that holds the harness on to the clip on the valve cover gasket was brittle and was vibrating loose. Replacing both the valve cover gasket and harness to be safe did it. Crank the truck with the valve cover off and watch to see if the connector is vibrating loose. i think the gasket was around twenty bucks and the harness was seventy something.

I had a '97 PS with a Banks brake and had similar problems. Believe it or not, it was installed with the actuator (plunger) sticking on some external tubing (can't remember exactly what however). Visually look at the brake and have the brake on and off to see how it moves.

Mine would clear itself after some time, but you defiantely couldn't drive it on the highway when it was on...
