: Where to go from here?
Fat Al 10-19-2004, 12:18 PM I have a 03 auto, 4x4,sb with Bully Dog's Dyno Dominator, 4"ss exhaust and a drop in afe. I am really looking to go in a different dirrection with the truck now! I mean don't get me wrong I love the truck! But, I am just getting a little bored with it. I do a bit of towing. Usually about 8-12k. I want some more performance! But, I have to be able to tow while doing it! Give me some Ideas! What set-up's are people happy with? Is stacking an option? Maby twins??? Super single? HELP!!!!!!I don't want to have to go and buy a Dodge.
BIG DIPPER 10-19-2004, 12:40 PM No need to talk Dodge yet Al.....you haven't even begun to scratch the surface of the Max.....
The Dyno Dominator can be upgraded to over 200 hp.....maybe try Kennedy. You still have the speed limitations and need something to remove that....TTS can help you...with the TTS, you can also end up with over 200hp add on. Not to sure how well the DD would stack with some of the lower tunes from TTS....but someone might as well find out.....if you didn't want to drop what you have now. Both vendors are advertisers here.... Do a search for Van Aaken(which is the box you have now) and search for TTS or extreme.....plenty of info and discussions on them both......
GMC2500HD 10-19-2004, 12:44 PM Al, do some searching man... Like Dipper said you are very very new here and have not scratched the surface of the potential of the Duramax... You can do trans upgrade, more power with different boxes or programmers, stacks and other variable drugs available... I think you will find that you can have more power than you will ever know what to do with and still be able to tow whenever you need.... Keep looking...
Fat Al 10-19-2004, 01:52 PM How bout some suggestions here guy's? You tell me this thing has all this potential! Give me some sample combos. What would you do for more power? HELP! My buddies Dodge is eating me alive!!!
ratlover 10-19-2004, 01:59 PM gota do a trans upgrade if you want much more power. Give Mike L. a call and he can talk to you about what you have and what you want and he can recomend what to do for trans stuff. He sells and installs trans stuff. If you want to go with some stupid power then look at TTS or VA or quadzilla. Do a search and you will get lotsa info and oppinions on those. My presonal preference is twards TTS but all the programs have thier plusses and minuses. Mike can put you in contact with Steve Cole(TTS) or answer some Q's on the TTS stuff. Steve also hangs out here(Diesel Tech) and you can email him or drop him a PM. The hot juice/attitude(150ish hp) is a pretty stout box and great for everyday although not as strong as the other 3 mentioned. Actually the hot juice is a freaking animal but after driving the bigger tunes it feels tame. Quite a few people also like the quad stacked with other things like the juice.
ratlover 10-19-2004, 02:08 PM Wana recipe that is pretty much garanteed to kill any dodge at the track? Get a trans, ATS or suncoast(I have a suncoast). Get a liftpump, get a TTS extreme, get some nitrous. Work on traction, launch in 4x4 with some boost. If he can read your license plate after 3 gears he has a bad MFing Cummins. Just a TTS extreme and a trans is enough to leave a mustang like its tied to a tree.
If you want to see some freaky dyno numbers do a search on Super Dieselhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif Throw some water meth and some propane into the mix and if the head gasket lives it will make your budy wet his pants and cry for his mommy.Edited by: ratlover
Burner 10-19-2004, 02:14 PM Your buddy.......he's running an aftermarket turbo?
Fat Al 10-19-2004, 02:21 PM Yeah he is. He is running (from what I have seen under the hood) twins, a tst box, clutch, and injectors(i think). That thing just straight-up hauls a$#! Talk about feeling like I am tied to a tree!I just don't understand how we can compete with 32lbs of boost? He claims to be running between 60-70lbs of boost? Is that possible? I really don't want to run NOS or Pain. I want the truck to last a little. So, aside from running on NOS or Pain is there any way?
ratlover 10-19-2004, 02:40 PM He is probably in the 600hp range then? Pretty mean truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley16.gif
There are no aftermarket turbos yet so if you want added air you need to use N2O. The duramax is capable of 500 or theres abouts on #2 and thats in the 30psi range. You can get all the fuel you can burn on the stock turbo outa programing so adding pane isnt really necissary.
With just a program its pretty easy to get a Duramax to be a 13 second ride. Shed weight and get it hooking and low 13's high 12's arnt outa question. Add N2O and you will get kicked off the track for not having a cage
The fact he has a stick is a big advantage for you. If you want to compete with him you are going to have to do trans work. Factor in at least 2500 if you are going to do the work yourself.
Edit: just becasue you use N2O dosnt mean you will hurt your truck. Its like any other power adder when used properly. Yes it hurts engin life but it hurts it becasue of the extra power not becasue N2O is some magical mystery substance that casues your motor to fail rapidly fast and furious style. Edited by: ratlover
ratlover 10-19-2004, 02:56 PM I did forget about one way to add power without N2O and a new turbo but its kinda expensive. Not many here have the balls to run this mod. Try asking around who runs juicegrips or put up a post in the wanted section, I think a few here have em but dont want to use em. Probably score some cheap. I take no resposibility for any tickets, or riots incited, or destruction of your truck. Use at your own risk ect. ect.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Fat Al 10-19-2004, 03:48 PM Juicegrips huh? I will check on it. You make it sound a little dangerous though? HaHa! Danger is my middle name!
big_jon00 10-19-2004, 03:56 PM You need to talk to superdiesel on here, or just do a search for his posts and enjoy the reading. He's pretty close to 800hp!! He's running the TTS extreme, powershot 2000 propane, a healthy shot of N2O I believe it's a single stage dry .125 jet, and his own water injection.... That should be more than enough powerhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif On stock injectors and turbo....
Last I knew TTS was about $1400, powershot2000 $650'ish N2O depends 350-1300 depends if you buy a kit our build your own... bottle warmer, openers, gauges... and all the other goodies to go with that. Water injection around $400 if you buy someones kit.
So say on average about $3000 and you go from 250'ish to 800'ish RWHP And of course a tranny w/converter... $4000-5000?? bring your total to $7000-8000 for about 550 additional rwhp and some type of lift pump. That'll make a dent on the old pocket bookhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

ratlover 10-19-2004, 03:58 PM Here is a special on em http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

Just razzing you and juice a bit. He catches alot of hell for the "juicegrips". Juice has killed a few turbos with his "mod". All in good fun, if you want quite a bit of funny reading do a search on juicegripshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
Most lunched motors had water meth and or propane in the mix. Gotta be carefull when running water meth or you can hydrolock your motor. N2O has proved to be pretty safe with the duramax. Super Diesel makes some nice stuffhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley16.gifEdited by: ratlover
