Coming home last night my "00" 7.3 Powerstroke bucked a couple of times and died. After letting it sit for a bit, I was able to get it restarted but only made it about 300 yards before it died again and wouldn't restart. This morning when I got to it the truck fired right up. I drove it the mile home, let it idle for 15 minutes and took off for work. About 2 miles down the road it bucked a couple of times and died again.
I can hear the pump on the frame running so I don't think that is it. I have had the ruck for about 15,000 miles now and have not changed the fuel filter yet so maybe that is it. Where is the fuel filter on this truck? Any other ideas on what the problem may be? THANKS GUYS!!!

Fuel filter is in the V valley of the motor under a black, round spin-on cap. Be careful getting the lid off, they can crack sometimes. I would also be suspicious of a Camshaft Position Sensor. These can be bought from FORD or from International for the T444E motor.

x2 on the cam sensor. They're half the cost at an International dealer. Don't get one from a Ford dealer.

I just called my Ford dealer and the price on the sensor is $27.62. I asked him if he was sure and he said that ford changed something and the price fell way out of these sensors so this is what I am going to try first. Is replacing this sensor difficult? Where is it at? Can I get to it? Thanks for the help!!

It's on the front of motor near the crank pulley. You'll need a 10mm to unbolt the tab and remove it. It's a quick job.

ebay used to be about 50 bucks for cps, if your cps is bad the tach will not move!!!the symtoms you discribe are cps,but change the fuel filter, and no you don't need to prime,we have pumps, and
some of these guy's know alot about fords.pay attention to the gasket if you put it on upside down it will leak=put flatside against the cap,and screw on. a cps is something to keep in the glove box/with a 10mm 1/4 drive socket, with a fuel filter!
