I just recieved my first oil analysis. Just wondered if anyone could tell me whether these are good or bad numbers. And what I might have to look out for, if anything, in the near future.
Iron = 52, Chromium = 3, lead = 9, copper = 15, tin = 0, aluminum = 10, nickel = 0, silver = 0, silicon = 17, boron = 48, sodium = 6, magnesium = 478, calcium = 2804, barium = 0, phosphorus = 1271, zinc = 1507, molybdenum = 18, titanium = 0, vanadium = 0, potassium = 0, fuel = <1, vis@ 40c = n/a, vis@ 100c = 14.19, water = 0, soot/solids = 0.1, clycol = neg.
At the bottom for analysis recommendations it says no corrective action required. I am running the Mobil Delvac 1 and I put 15,700 miles on this oil. However, I changed the filter and added 1/2 quart oil every 5,000 miles along with changing my fuel filter. I also had my juice set at either level 2 or 5 most of the time. Thanks for any comments.

If you run Geno's magic air filter your silicon (dirt in oil) will go to zero. Hell maybe even less then zero.

Don't worry, there are a few guys that will look at the numbers and let you know.
I don't do oil analysis on my truck so I can't help you. Not that I don't believe in oil analysis, my place of business does oil analysis on all the rotating machinery.
For me it's just as easy to do an oil change.
Hang in there, in a few hours you'll have more opinions then you'll ever need. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

All in all it looks very good for the amount of miles on the oil. Iron is a bit high but nothing to worry about. Moly is low but i do not think this oil starts out with much. Copper? How many miles on the engine? If this is still new than that is cool too for this engine.

Almost 61,000 miles on the truck at the time of change. I was used to using the Valvoline oil and when I doubled the $$ on just the cost of oil for the Mobil Delvac 1, I figured I could double the miles. So, every 5000 miles I brought some of the oil into work and burned an oil sample just to see my metal content... the only thing our unit does not measure is the viscosity of the oil. So, I was only hoping it would look good. And I guess it did. Now I know I can run 15,000 miles on the oil as long as I keep the filter changed every 5k. When I burned the oil at 5k, my copper was 13 and then at 10k my copper read 10, now it is 15. Could just be the slight difference in different machines and how frequent they get calibrated.
Thanks for the input, Jeff

Yes, the copper does not appear to be a problem.

It could be where you are getting your sample from, out of the filter is not good.

A lot of the readings are above the universal averages posted on my Blackstone report. Later! Frank Edited by: Frank Blum
