I'm in the process of rebuilding my 4L80E which had a direct clutch housing/drum failure. On inspection of the various bushings the only one that shows signs of scoring or wear was the output shaft bushing.

The "bushing driver" tools are quite expensive. Does anybody have a technique for removing and replacing the output shaft busing (that isn't too much of a hack :o:)?

I also noticed the rear internal gear (part of the gear train) is discolored - I don't know if it is supposed to look that way or it has been subject to excess heat. The output shaft has a ring of minor discoloration around the internal side.

Thanks!

Paul

Bushings can be removed using a "bushing cutter".

Installing bushings can be a little trickier and require a press and a mechanism (like the special tools) for aligning the bushings. I found a nice independent transmission shop (good guys - see contact info below) that was willing to push a bushing in, after looking he told me that the bushing was fine - plenty of material and that I should double-check tolerances but that that they would be fine.
