I finally got the 18MPG average, I took a trip to Solvang through Long Beach, Ventura & Santa Barbara to Solvag. I was surprized when I checked my mileage that I averaged 18MPG. I hit stop&go traffic in all three cities, that is what really surprized me. I've done trips to ARZ & NV & never got this type of MPG. It is around 16MPG, not sure why the change, maybe my trucks finally breaking in. All I do is city driving & don't get to really drive the miles at high speeds for a long time. I averaged 70MPH on the last trip & used my cruise control most of the time. Drive time was almost 5 hours.

I hope I continue to get this type of good mileage especially with the price of diesel.

Slow down a bit more. Will get flack for this but ACCORDING to
what I have written down for info....... one tank I got 28.83
MPG. Now that is also Canadian gallons. A Canadian gallon
is 4.5 litres, where a U.S. gallon is (I think) 3.9 litres.
Believe it was all highway. Had to be. The others are quite
a bit lower. Next best was 22.6 MPG's. My worst was 10.6
MPG's while towing. So far. Haven't calculated the rest.

Noticed my mileage worsens once outside CA borders.

ShumDit; CA for me is California. Are you a fellow beer drinking,
nose nuzzulin', get your frozen dinner outta the snowbank Canadian?

Our speed limit up here on the highway (in Ontario) is 100 KPH or about
62 MPH. I do about 103 to 105 KPH. I also have 265 tires.

Get passed by quite a few trucks. But I still end up passing a
few people. Kinda think some people are slowing down, because of
the price of gas/fuel.

Hey now, let's watch it, I know lots of transplanted Canadians who had enough of the cold winters & moved to CA & they are all nice guys. Now Max Owner has to be OK he drives a DMAX. Now for driving 62 on a CA freeway that just isn't going to happen. Even driving a truck the little cars would run over you, average speed on a CA freeway is about 80 & even then you are getting passed like your standing still. I was once in a class for those who were unfourante & recieved a ticket & a couple of the guys were written up for exceeding 100MPH. Of course I would never do that I was there for an unsafe lane change - not speeding. Here in CA you have to watch the guy behind you also to make sure he does run over you. I also don't want to get started on fuel prices - $2.59 - back east is a little lower.

20mpg +/- .1mpg @ 63mph on the highway and city driving mixed in.

Drive slower, it only hurts the oil companies!

I just hammered from Sacramento, to Carson City, NV on business. That's from virtually sea level, to over 7,200 ft and back to whatever Carson City is. I put the cruise at 70 and left it there slowing only for traffic, which because it was light was not often. Because of the wether, I refueled at Boomtown before returning over Donner Summit in order to make sure of enough fuel on board in case of a lengthy stay in the mountains. I averaged 18 mpg on the dot. I haven't checked the return mileage, yet, but because I was running through a blizzard at about 30 mph for most of 40 miles, I don't expect it to be all that great. I get 18 mpg and over anytime I get on the open road, usually at 75.

I recently drove from Florida to California and back. Put on about 6,000 miles. Did a lot of National park sightseeing so there was quite a back of hill climbing etc. I checked the mileage each fill up. Average on the tank fill up was a little over 20 mpg. I found that if I drove about 70mph to 73mph I got the best mileage. One bad section was when I pushed it to 75mph plus, and ran into a lot of headwind, got 17 mpg. Truck is a 2003 with 63,000 miles.

 I have a 2002, 2500 HD Crewcab Duramax with allison, 80,000 miles on truck. I can consistantly get over 20 mpg while on the road with no load, tail gate down and air tabs installed on the roof traveling at 64 mph... (not in city traffic)! I have gotten as high as 23- I believe there was a tail wind. The allison will lock in the overdrive at 50 mph when I push in the tow mode button. It will remain in O.D. untill I depress the tow mode button or the angle of the hill gets too steep!

Just ran from Dallas to KC (1200 miles) over the holiday. Got 18.2 for the whole trip, but did get 19 on one tank and 18.7 on another. I have 265s and set the cruise for 70. The 18.7 tank had 3 spots in OK where the traffic stopped for no particular reason. These two are the highest I have seen in quite some time. I got to tanks at 18.2 back this summer when I set at 72 mph, but 2 at close to 19 running 70 was great. The next trip I will go down to 68 and see what that gives me.

have just under 79,000 miles on our '02 ('01 injectors :ro) ) 3500 D/A CC LB with Juice set on 60hp in both TowHaul and regular ... have found speed is her enemy when it comes to mpg's ... the higher we cruise above 67mph, 2,000rpm, the faster the mpg's fall ... 65-70 mph will usually yield 17+ a little, 70 up will drop her to 16 or below ... when/if I can force myself to cruise her from 55 to 60 mph (which is almost never ):h ) she will deliver 19-20 mpg... in June/July we towed a 11,000 pound camper from coast to coast and border states to border states, usually cruised at 65-69mph, averaged 11.5mpg for the entire trip ... one other point, in many threads mileage is given on both 2500 and 3500 models without folks taking into consideration that most 2500's will get better mileage

100 KPH? Do you drive on the 401? It's been about 5 years since I came to a summer motorcycle rally in Canada, but the last time I was there, people fly on the 401. If you were doing only a 100 KPH you'd probably have been run over.

I agree entirely. The MPG seems to drop off almost linearly above 65mph. I'm moving from 265's to 285's to try to bump up my cruising speed just a bit.

On the round trip to Tulsa from Portland OR, I saw a solid average of 20 MPG even when the beast was limping with bad injectors across snow with major winds and a drivers side window replaced (MacGeivered) half way through the return trip with plexiglass and go fast tape. Oh, yeah and I had around a ton of stuff in the bed.

I get 18-19 cruising 68-73mph. I leave my edge on level 2. If I put it on level 4 I will get 17. I also notice that better mileage is in relation to using Flying J fuel (for me).

I Just got back from Iowa towing a new 28' camper, had a 45+ MPH headwind much of the way on I-80 and combined with winter blended fuel, got 8.51 MPG!!!!! Had to keep it pinned in 5th to hold 65. If I let off the brakes it felt like I stood on the slow pedal with both feet. I tow around 4000 lbs more weight from Colorado to Moab 2-3 times a year and NEVER get below 14.5 towing and that's pushing the truck hard. Unloaded is average 19. Got to try out the new camper, stranded in a Wal Mart parking lot in Grand Island NE during the ice/snow storm just passed through.

Hmmmmmm - while owning a Ford Diesel I viewed several of these "MPH-reporting" threads and found, most often, that others appeared to be getting better mileage than I!

So, once again I rummaged through the replies and find myself on the short end of the MPH "stick." At best, on a GOOD day, if'n the wind isn't too bad I average around 15 miles per gallon - note that calculation is based on pen and pencil, no computer in my truck.

On a good day, towing a 36 Teton Experience fifth wheel, with little wind, I can see 10 miles per gallon - pen and pencil in hand once more.

Sigh............I know I'm not driving any faster than others (70 to 75 without the trailer) so guess it must be my breath or something.

19mpg around town, 21 highway no load, 13.5 towing 5000lbs. Towing was to fast at 70+, I'm sure 65mph will get me 14-14.5.

First, I have one of the rare ZF equipped trucks. My truck just turned 100k miles. I've kept an average of my mileage for every tank since day one (calculated with a pen & paper...the old '02 didn't have all those fancy computer thingys on them). Todate, my truck has averaged 20.5 MPG. I drive approximately 80 miles round trip to work each day. My commute consists of a 50-50 mixture of intown and highway driving.

On a recent trip from N. Texas to NW Arkansas pulling a 10.5k 5er, I averaged 11.88 on the way out and 12.45 on the return trip.

I wonder the same thing. General driving I seem to get in the 14-16 MPG neighborhood (it's on the low side right now with the cold weather). And towing a travel trailer (not 5th wheel) I seem to get around 11 MPG. I don't believe that I'm hard on the truck and don't drive to excessive speeds. While I would never rely on the DIC totally for mileage computations, my DIC (stock truck with 19K miles on it) shows 13.2 MPG. I've accused may of fabricating mileage stories and not computing mpg accurately. So what gives? We seem to be in the same boat.

Patrick suggested to someone a while back, that water temperature sensors that indicated the wrong temperature would cause the engine to run richer, thus resulting in decreased fuel mileage. Any way to check the sensor?

Unloaded, miix of city & freeway I have averaged 17.2 mpg (closer to 20 on the freeway and closer to 15 in city).
With a 12,000 lbs of Fifth wheel trailer attached it drops to 11.8 mpg (mostly freeway with alot of big hills).
