On the pass. side of the LLY just below the alternator is a alum.
colored 5"x5" cover that has a sicker on it which says "Bosch... EDU
Common Rail".
What exactly is this?
My concern is it also has a label on it stating "Do not power spray or
jump start here". Am I gonna do damage to this component if I
power spray (wash) the engine?
Thanks!

I believe that is the electronics that control your fuel injectors. Most computers do not like to have water sprayed on them from a pressure washer. This could be especially bad if the unit were hot from use. If you look, that unit sits on a heat exchanger that has diesel fuel circulating through it.

That is the FICM or Fuel Injector Control Module. It has a vent on it, that is why you cannot pressure wash it as the water may damage it.
I use the Ziplock wrap covers (they look pretty much like a shower cap) to protect mine when washing the engine. They work great, the elastic band on them pulls the saran wrap type material right over the FICM to keep it dry. I don't use a pressure washer, just cover up the critcal items, spray it down with simple green or similar degreaser / cleaner, wet it down and scrub it a bit with a mitt, and hose it off.
I have washed my engine more than once http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif and never had a problem with this method.

Thanks for the info guys!
BMDMAX, good info - is there anything else that needs protecting when washing the engine?

I cover the FICM and the bale connectors where the Juice or other similar modules plug in and that is about it. Everything else should be OK.
I do use my air compressor air gun to blow off all the excess water before starting it up too.
Happy washing! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
