I just got back from a 1600 mile trip. The outside temp was warm (99 degrees). I was running about 80 M.P.H. for most of the trip. My engine temp was about 210 to 215 degrees which was a little higher than usual, however, my trans temp stayed between 240 and 250 degrees which was higher than it has ever run. Do you think that was to high and could have damaged the trans? The only mod I have on the truck is a Fan Damn.

jharper,

I would recommend changing your fluid and spin on filter. Synthetic fluid would be good to change to for the future. You may actually want to get rid of all the fluid (there are methods on this site that show you how) because a simple srain and fill does not clear out the torque convertor (which holds a lot of fluid). Those temps may break down the fluid - the tranny is probably fine.

How much were you towing? How long did the tranny temp stay that high?

I've never seen anything over 200 pulling a 10K toy box at 80. Change your fluid/filter. I choose Transynd, but you can pick your own poison, just choose synthetic.

If that Fan Damn you have on their is one of those electric fans that replace the stock fan than that could be the problem. Did you have any trailer behind you when you were driveing? If that fan is a electric fan than check the owners manual and see how much you can tow because many of those fans do not allow much weight to be pulled.
