: Anyone running these tires?
dmaxfan 10-18-2004, 08:32 AM I am wanting some info about the Dunlop Mud Rovers. Do they wear good? Are they pretty good in mud? I am running BF Goodrich Mud Terrains and they are almost wore out. I can get them at $180 to $200 a tire at Sams. The Dunlops are $117. I want to run 285/75/R16.
GMC2500HD 10-18-2004, 09:53 AM They are an ok tire.. I think you should go to the Tire Rack.com and read up on them. They will give the tire rating and wear rating on tons of tires, those included. I think you will find out what you need to know there.
1BADDMAX 10-18-2004, 09:54 AM I am running Dunlop Mud Rovers in 255/85/16. I got nearly 30k out of my last set. Hopefully if I rotate this set more often I will get 35k or more. I paid $100 plus shipping for the tires from tirerack back in July. I'm not sure how much this size costs now. Pictures are posted in my signature.
GMC2500HD 10-18-2004, 09:59 AM Why did you go with such a narrow tire? Just curious..
dmaxfan 10-18-2004, 10:03 AM thanks guys
dmaxfan 10-18-2004, 10:49 AM After checking out the tire rack website, I might check out the firestones
Burner 10-18-2004, 04:06 PM I have a buddy that's a Logger. I don't know of anything he has or has had that isn't trashed from abuse. He has the Dunlop's and seems to like them. Tire wear has been really good to him so far......50k. If you like them....... it might be worth a try?

dmaxfan 10-18-2004, 04:23 PM They are $112 + shipping on the tire rack website. They are $117 at Sams. I'll probably go ahead and get them at Sams. Edited by: dmaxfan
ratlover 10-18-2004, 05:10 PM Howd the 255's fit? You have to crank the bars at all? Any rubbing? I have 265's but have been wanting some 255's. Tall narrow=better traction in snow and in mud unless its really deep. I was thinking about some radial rover rt's though. I have em now and like em, just may want a bit bigger.
dmaxfan 10-18-2004, 05:20 PM 255's aren't any taller than 265's. I don't know why you would need to turn your bars. Check this site out Rat

ratlover 10-18-2004, 05:46 PM A 255 is about 2" taller than a 265 but just a hair more narrow. A 255 is actually a hair taller than a 285. Correct???http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
moss022 10-18-2004, 05:53 PM i was under the impression that a 255 is for a dullie. like a 225 and 235. thats like a 245 to a 265 to a 285
30" to 32" to 33" or pretty close to that depending on company http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
Super Dave 10-18-2004, 07:38 PM Is there a significant loss of power using this tire? I see a couple of people here are running power upgrades. Is that because of the larger tires, or just because?

Look at the new Dunlop Rvxt tires in Lt255/85R16 these will be great snow tires.
I'm on my second set of Dunlop AT in Lt255/85R16. I had 40k on the first set before 2 went egg shaped.
dmaxfan 10-19-2004, 08:51 AM After reading the tirerack.com website that GMC2500HD so humbly gave, I came to this conclussion on my next set of 285 mudtires:
Dunlop-A few complaints-not many. Average tread wear on 3/4 ton trucks is about 20,000 miles. $112
Firestone- Almost no complaints-most of which came from 3/4 ton users. Average tread wear on 3/4 ton trucks is about 30,000 miles. $149
Bridgestone- Maybe one or two complaints. Most of the people that liked the tire drove 3/4 ton trucks. Average tread wear on 3/4 ton trucks is about 45,000 miles. $169
I have owned the Bridgestone Duelers before, and they are very good tires. They will eat up mud and last a very long time. I guess you get what you pay for.
Thanks for all of the replies, I was just wondering about some info on some good rubbers.
dieselman 10-20-2004, 05:42 AM dmaxfan,
The tread wear on the Dunlops seems low. I've owned many dunlops
before and they lasted as long as or longer than BF Goodrich or
Michelin. I'm Looking at putting the new RVXT on the truck now
and hope to get 40000 out of them. They are a 500 wear tire
compared to some others that are 400, like NItto. Good luck with
your choice.
Dmax Tim 10-20-2004, 06:14 AM Rat, Maxxis has some 265/85-16 buckshot MT E rated, little over 33" high.
They aren't on the website but my local backwoods tire shop has them, seems like a little over $100.
On stock wheels these shouldn't be any problem w/ stock bar settings.
Dmax Tim 10-20-2004, 06:25 AM 255's aren't any taller than 265's. I don't know why you would need to turn your bars. Check this site out Rat

That website won't let u put in 85 series tires.
255/85 are taller than 285/75.
dmaxfan 10-20-2004, 08:22 AM yes they are, but all rat said was 255
Dmax Tim 10-20-2004, 10:33 AM 1Baddmax said "I am running Dunlop Mud Rovers in 255/85/16" so this was what Rat was ???? how they fit.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
