Hi guys,

I'm willing to free my exhaust. I have already get rid off the soot trap (or is it a cat converter?) and have the project of taking out the muffler and go straight pipe.

As far as I know, there's no danger on a diesel to go straight pipe, but of course, the truck will be more noisy.

I have heard the rumble of straight pipes. I just love it :D :D

Unfortunately, I doubt that neighbourgs and wife will appreciate when I'll have to start the engine at 5 AM each working day ;) .

So, I think the good compromise should be to use a glass pack as a resonator.

The question is : do diesel need specially designed resonators? Can I use a generic one?
What do you think of these ones ? :

The only time it is louder than normal is when you are accelerating or under load.

Straight pipe it!!!

I have a straight pipe, my wife and son can not hear it inside, my neighbors can not hear it.
I have left for work at 0315, no complaints, 0500, no complaints, come home now around 2300 to 0100 since I am on nights and still no complaints.
My neighbors never hear me and I run the truck about 20 mph down the street.
Just straight pipe it.

Straight piped 6.5 only makes noise when you want it to!

You don:t need a muffler at all on a turbo diesel because the turbo has enough back pressure. real loud though. A turbo muffler would be a better choice. Good flow but not so loud.

OK, most of you look happy with straight pipe :)

Is it noisy when cruising on highway (cruise speed about 100~110 kms/hour)?

i have 4" straight on mine and you can only hear when you have the back window open and pass someone on the 4 lane or you go through a bridge....

Might as well just buy an entire turbo back system to really open it up. Some even sell the system with a straight pipe. There is a guy selling Jardine systems on the auction site.

Hope this helps,
Tony

By the looks of my muffler, I would be surprised if helps in reducing noise. My truck isn't very loud. Immediately after installing the system, I would say it was fairly load but with soot coating the system, it seems to have had a sound deadening effect, or maybe I'm just getting used to it.

I just put a 4" exhaust system on with a straight-thru muffler and it sounded good... in fact it was much lighter (in lbs) than the stock sys. but the sound made my foot gain weight... so I put a turn down pipe on it because I'll be towing and I also didn't want the soot on my quarter panel... I really like the sound now,... it's not loud at all in the burb but I get all the benifits...
