Hi all,
I'm new here (so be gentle). I'm about to start a project to convert my '52 'burb to diesel power. I have a Banks turbo'd 6.2 and what I'm trying to figure out is what I'm in for in terms of the motor mounts on the frame. I've heard they are identical in location to a small block Chevy.
Can anyone confirm?
This would sure make life easy if it were true.

It's getting C4 Corvette suspension front and rear so I can locate the mounts nearly anywhere. But I can buy small block mounts ready to go, so...

Any help greatly appreciated.
Chris

I've just put a 6.2 in my 75 truck, it was a 454 originaly, the motor bolted right up to the 454 mounts no trouble, don't know if this is of any help to you

Beautiful! So worst case, it's big block mounts...
Thanks much for the info.

The '52 Carryall frame is nothing like the '75 frame, as it was available only with a 6-cylinder - the steering box and column will be right in the way of the driver's-side head and exhaust manifold.

Then, there's the torque-tube differential, antique brakes, and etc - the similar 55-up frame would be better, as it had the SB V8, up to 3500 rating - '57-up got the heavier 348W series, '60 got the 409W, '62 got the 427W, all dump truck engines.

Best bet is to get a '74 or later junker truck, get the front clips off both vehicles, compare frames side-to-side, maybe even cut the late frame and section it in to the '52 - maybe even put the '52 body on the late frame with late brakes - plus, you get 12v wiring

Very little change in frames between '74 to '91, but you'd get modern disk brakes convenience.

Take your time, check things out, and it will be a good swap.

BTW - welcome to the 'Place, tygaboy.......

Nope, keeping this frame. All the wiring is gone, the frame is being boxed and getting 'vette suspension, front and rear, power rack & pinion, etc. Essentially, everything but the frame and body are being replaced.

My question for now is if the motor mount locations are the same between the 6.2 and the SBC or BBC. I want to know so when I spec stuff, I can go with "same as gas" motor mount locations on the frame. This will help locate the trans cross member, etc.

Cool moves - should be nice piece of work when finished.

Just strip an '87 for modern wiring - GM kept the 'blazer, 'Burb, and crew thru '91, military got some thru '92, and those have even more modern wiring.

So, big block mounts location, longitudinally and in width

You'll need to make provision on the firewall for the Bendix Hydroboost brake booster, which uses the power steering pump - Diesels develop 0 vacuum in the intake - so you'll need a suspended pedal system - should be able to fit that from the later trucks.

If you wanted to keep the floor pedals, the hydroboost\master cylinder could be mounted inside the frame beneath the driver's seat, but that would surely be a dirty location.

Post some pics as you progress - I grew up in those old Carryalls - when they were new.

Motor mounts are the same as the SBC, same bell housing too.
