Anyone know if these are available yet? PN., Efficiency change, Etc.

If I can get my hands on one I will open it up and post my findings as compared to the current filter. Number of pleats, Media thickness, surface area. Protected metal, Etc.,Etc. I will even call Parker to verify changes if any in efficiency. I was going to change the whole filter setup @ 100K but now that GM has extended the warranty I see the need to keep the OEM in place. I am really interested in what they came up with. I know for a fact that they produce a media with as little as 1/2 micron absolute as we use these for sub sea methanol injection. Any Thoughts?

It will be interesting to see what they changed. It would be equally interesting to know "WHY" they made a change. It seems like the OEM has a number of shortcomings. Did Racor change it because GM demanded these shortcomings be fixed, did GM change the filter spec that Racor designed the filter too or is Racor simply trying to squeeze another dollar or two of profit from the filter........

I'm a little fuzzy on the fact's: I know that I can't get an OEM
fuel filter for my LLY anywhere right now due to the B/O but are they
still manufacturing the OEM filter for the LB7?? Or have they
stopped production of both filters? Is a new filter in the works
with better efficiency (hopefully). What's the word (or rumor)??

That 1/2 micron absolute would be a good by pass filter for the oil system. Hint - Hint

Only problem is that they are huge and pleated. Even if they were small they might load quickly. Parker has some quality stuff. It's just a shame the built junk for our trucks.

Found a small spinner that will mount in the extra alt. area but it has to have a 1" drain back and rite now I don't want to remove pan for the fitting. They are removing all solids even the soot on big trucks, would be ideal for the D-Max

A true statement. The Racor R60S filter that I have been using in the Pre-OEM position (while called a 2 micron filter) is really a 4 micron filter (98% efficient). This filter has more surface area than the OEM. This filter is well over half used at the 7500 mile interval that I change it out. I cannot see GM/Racor going to a true 2 micron (98% efficient) filter in the OEM position. A 2 micron filter installed in the OEM position (with no pre-filter) would have a hard time lasting 5000 miles. Even using the R60S media in the OEM position would have a hard time going 10,000 miles.

Geno, A spinner was my first choice before installing the Oil guard but I could not find one small enough and for our application at the time. Those things work great and do remove soot all the way to the sub micron level. Next time we clean one on the Cat's I'll have one of the mechanics take some pics. Where the solids collect it's about the consistency of wax.

Alan, Never really thought about it much but you are correct. Same size + Same Change Interval = More than likely Same Media. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

Everyone needs to read the posts towards the end of this thread (I posted a link here since some may not make it to the LLY section).

The engineering drawing that DMAXALLITECH posted has relevant information on it that Isuzu/GM is in the process of increasing the filtering efficiency of the fuel system filtration element.

I guess they are able to maintain 15K due to makeshift depth loading. Larger particles on outside and smaller on inside. My in cab fuel pressure/vac gauge w/ the lift pump makes it easy to see when the filters start getting restricted. I loose near 3 psi on the current OEM filter over the coarse of 15K. I'm curious and will check to see how much additional vac will result with the new design throughout it's usefull life. Will be interesting to see the difference. Heck they should have used the longer LLY filter design and provider spacers for early model trucks. Guess there was too much money involved. Never the less I think this is a positive move. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif Edited by: a bear

I imagine the dealerships will be the first to stock them. Will either have to pay the dealership price or wait a while longer for them to show up elsewhere.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

Hope they're not linking the new PN to their old stock untill they clear out their old inventory. Would hate to order filters under the new PN only to receive the same old junk. I would call but they don't list a phone number on their web page. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

I too am eagerly awaiting the new filter for curiousity and a hopefully better filter. I'm coming due and down to my last filter(my reserve) but will wait for the new ones.

I've got a road trip in late february to Florida so other than my impatience I've got time for the new ones to hit our vendor channels.

When putting the new part number into the parts computer, its crosses back over to the LB7 element. Same happens when entering the old LLY element number. A call to Partech has yeilded no results either...

I am not sure where Max Payne got his... But I wanna know.

Eric, I told our parts manager about the new # filter a couple weeks ago, then I went in the other day to check on them and he says,"oh yeah, we got two cases(6 ea.) the other day" He must have tried to order the new #, but I agree, when he checked them in the computer they cross to the old LB7 #. But if you look them up in GM EPIC, the new# no longer says "no stock available" it now says "direct ship, available from vendor" If you guys SPAC them maybe we will send a couple, unless there are some closer to you. As far as I know, all the Izuzu stuff comes from So. Cal., maybe that is why they are here first? Do we need pics?

Bump - has anybody been able to come-up with a source for the new filters? Every dealer I talk to says they are going to use their stock of LB7 filters first and won't order a new one. Max Payne was able to get them? Eric said he placed an order for him but he doesn't have them avail on his site yet.

I installed one this past weekend - new number / black stripe - and I could physically see no difference internally between the new and old. This of course doesn't mean it filters the same. I have been using puralator's but their suppose to all be made by Raycor. The metal ring/piece in the bottom of the new looked the exactly the same as in the old version. The way the light reflects in the picture almost makes it look like two pieces but I believe it is just one.......Hopfully they have improved it.

Max Payne
11-29-2004, 05:13 PM
Compared directly to old filter they ARE different when looking in from the bottom... Old filter has one stamped ring, new filter has two stamped rings.
ON EDIT: I just looked through our used filter bin, and found SOME of the used filters in there (old #) do have two rings visible from the bottom...sooo, I guess I have to cut one open to see the difference.:o

OC DMAX- you are right. Media size is key here. I am running a CAT 1R0755. I am going to go out on a limb here but I think this is the largest aftermarket 2-mic filter being used on a DMax as far as I can tell. I have gone almost 30k miles on an OEM and it still looked like new.

Size does matter in this case ;)

Trace,

Just a little heads up. I had tried the 0755 a while back (a year or so) and my analysis came back higher than previously using the same as always sampling technique. (results posted on the spread sheet Bill made up) I have since gone back to the Baldwin which is a little shorter with the treated media and drain and my particle count came back down accordingly. Can't say for sure if I contaminated the 0755 sample some but I elected to move on before putting a large quantity of miles on a element that may or may not be as efficient. Not sure but not taking the chance. Can't remember the spreadsheet link but it's around here somewhere. On another note though the 0755 results were still acceptable.

Hey Eric,

two things... under the how to articles you wrote for fuel filters, the reinstall portion is missing.

second... what's a good chemical to clean the WIF part before putting it in the new filter? About to reinstall and went to refresh my memory and the article is missing. Might have lost it in transition...

thanks in advance.
