Hello
We were gone for a few days with our 5th Wheel Trailer - but our 1999
Chev K3500 Dually Crewcab just doesn't have the get up and go .
It only has 52,000 miles on it .
The Mileage drops down to 6-8 MPG pulling the Trailer and it probably weighs a little over 8,000 lbs.
We had either a Cross wind or a Side Wind .. but it still doesn't seem
to have the pep that it used to. It never has gotten good mileage
pulling the Trailer. Yet Solo .. I used to get about 14-16
MPG driving it back and forth to work - 20 miles each way in the City
Traffic.
Does anyone have any ideas ?? We don't want to have to get a New
Duramax ... they are getting to pricey for retired people.
Any Suggestions would be appreciated ..
Thank You

Replaced Fuel and Air Filters lately? Any smoke under load? Stock Exhaust? an upgrade there would certainly be benificial.

Hi Texas Diesel Guy
We have a k & N Air Filter and that was just cleaned not too long
ago .. My Husband is going to have our Son pick up a new Fuel Filter
for it tomorrow .. (Son works at a Chev Dealership in Parts)
No Smoking at all .. and it does have Stock Exhaust on it
Reset your TDC offset to compensate for lash in the timing chain over the last 50k
I don't know what a TDC is .. but I will give it to the Experts and ask them.
Funny when it pulls it will pull it going 60-65 MPH .. but it does
consume a lot of fuel .. Most of the time it is 7 Mpg .. if there
is
a wind that is when we really notice it and where can you go
nowadays without a wind from one direction or another ..
We are thinking of getting a New 5'er .. but we want to have the horses
to pull it .. can't afford both .. but would like to .. Also need
the money to pay for the fuel to go ..
Thank You for your reply - We appreciate it ..

Check with engine idling, the bleed valve on the fuel filter, fuel should come out engine should continue to run. then pull the vacuum line off the waste ggate solenoid and check for ~25" hg vacuum.

Hi

<span ="bold">quantum mechanic,
WE are going to have to get a Book on the 6.5 Diesel to search
for the where you are referring to. It isn't that we are lost
with Engines .. My Son builds the Power High Performance
engines and works in Parts at a chev Dealer .. and my other son
works for a Truck Air Condition and they do other things too ..
But we don't have a book on it as it has just past the warranty
period last April .. Naturally .. but I have copied down all the
suggestions for us to check out ..
We need a Place to start looking and we Thank You for the
information ..We wil check it out .. There has to be an answer
to why it is not performing like it should ..
What kind of Mileage to you get with yours ?? By the looks of
it .. You have added a lot of extra's on yours .
Thanks again

The fuel filter is behind the turbo power cover and the wg solenoid is to the driversside valve cover.
