I know I feel stupid. :D

Im rotating the tires and the front left wheel is stuck on. I recall having this problem before, but a few kicks and it came off. This time the tire is really stuck. I tried kicking it, rolling the rear tire against the side of it, etc...

I didnt want to tap the rim itself with a hammer because I didnt know if that could crack the wheel; if it was a good idea or not...

I knew I shoulda put anti-zeize on the hub/hat of the disc/wheel mating surface/whatever, but I forgot... :banghead:

any ideas? Is it ok to tap the wheel with a hammer?

btw these are stock PYO's.

thanks
ben

Take a block of wood and a small sledge hammer to the back side of the rim, Ive been there before and this always works. Good Luck.:) If you cant reach it just position yourself safely and give it a good kick from the back side, you'll get it!

the passenger side front wheel came off fine, no problem...go figure!

I think its because I dont have a center cap on the driver side wheel, so more water could get in there and sieze it on...I broke the driver side front cap a long time ago and dont feel like spending money on a new one

thanks for the block of wood tip Tim, Ill give that a shot

Soak it with Kroil, PB Blaster, or something similar.

Then get a sledgehammer and that ought to do it.

I had a wheel stick on my Pontiac Vibe a couple of years ago and used a method that I read about on some forum (don't remember which). I loosened the lug nuts slightly (they still touched the wheel), put the car in reverse, backed up the driveway a few feet and hit the brakes hard. I jacked up the car again, took off the lug nuts and the wheel came off easily. I got the speed up to only a couple of mph before I hit the brakes. Of course, our trucks are a lot heavier than my Vibe, so I don't if this is safe for a 7000# truck.

thanks everyone! I ended up soaking it in PB blaster, then hitting it from the inside with a block of wood and hammer.

I do it this way too, after 6 months of salt they are stuck pretty good.

anti sieze doesn't seem to help much either.

dont forget trq to 120 lbs

should translate that for Ben, he's only used to doing 12oz. curls, so u need to tighten it 160 beers.

BTW tighten them BEFORE drinking the 160 beers

really Ben, I just use my small 1/2 impact and stop as soon as the socket quits turning.
Torque is close and haven't had any loosen up in 40+ tire changes.

Loosen the lugs a bit, and take it out for a short ride.

Lug nut torque is 140.

When you are breaking the lugs loose while the truck is on the ground, rock the truck side to side and it will break them loose

I've never had front wheels get stuck, but I've had the rears get stuck. Had to roll forward and backward goosing it to get them loose. Anti-seeze seems to be keeping them from doing it again.

The man can wire umpteen Bose speakers into a truck along with enough gizmos to make a rapper jealous, but...:D

Glad to hear ya got it, I was going to say just take a 4lb hand sledge and a block of wood to the bottom of the wheel from the inside. I had to help the poor little (I mean little, the guy might've been 5' tall and 130lbs.) tire guy at Les Schwab hammer the front right wheel off a 96 Ram 3500. I ended up taking his 10lb tire/wheel sledge and wailing the crap out of it to get the rust broken up.

I also second 140 lbs torque on the knuts. I've only ever used 140 on all my aluminum wheels, 1500, 2500, 2500HD. I read somewhere that you need to check the torque on aluminum wheels after you've driven it a while, guess what? I've never had any work loose.

Don't forget on the torque that if you put anti-seize or anything on the threads really, you're supposed to change how much torque you use.

Generally, it's 80% of max if you have anti-seize on the threads, which you should have.

X2 that is where the 120lbs came from
