: Replacement fuel tank and warranty.

We are looking to replace the current OME 26 gallon fuel tank with one
of the 45 gallon models (supertanks or one of the other
ones). GM does not have a bigger tank or we would get it from
them.

Is GM going to void our warranty if we replace the tank. I'm sure
that any tech that looks under the truck will see the bigger tank so
there is no way to hide it. If they do void the warranty would it be
all of it or just the fuel system or ......?

We want to be able to go to a cheaper station and also have more fuel
since this summer while we were towing we noticed that the truck seemed
to want to stop at about every other station <grin>.

Love the truck, just want to make it better.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Not sure about the warranty but one word of advice. Check to see how many of the gallons are useable in the new tank. I remember somebody telling me that the tank he got was so long it took 10 gals to keep it working so he only had 35 gallons of fuel to use. Seems like a lot of money for ten extra gallons.

I have a 62 gallon fuel cell from supertanks. To be honest it's not the pretty(est) thing in the world but it i don't care. 1000+ miles between fillups is awesome.

Note: The tanks sits 1-2 inches bellow the frame rail so you will loose some clearence. My truck hardly sees any dirt so it's no big deal for me, but if you are an off road enthusiast i would go with one of the smaller ones.

Regarding the warrentee issue Yes it can void warrenty but will it? Is entirely up to your stealership opening there big pie hole http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley12.gif. They'll start blaming injector problems on it ect. Bribery http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif is a powerfull tool, a couple of tickets to a game or ??????? can go a long way. Good luck

Thanks for the replies.

Dennis:

I saw that also but there was a response from the company that they had
fixed that issue. On thier web site you now have to specify if
you have an LLY or LB7 since the fuel tanks are different.

Eric:

You leave me with the impression that the dealer will not care unless
there is a warranty issue. They won't look under there and then
just void it all right now. If that is true it is some comfort. I
have not seen as many posts about the LLY injectors as the LB7's had
and I still wonder how much of a problem it is. We have over 13K
on the truck so far and no problems.

As for the loss of ground clearance, we don't like to go over anything
higher then the differentials anyway so I don't think that would be a
problem. We have a cow bell hanging in the front down to thier level so
we know if we are going to go over anything to tall.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

I guess the next question would be: Who installs these things.
Not me, I'd just make a mess of it all. I did not pay about 40K
to play with and mess up my wifes ridehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif.

Thanks again,

John

I think I read on another forum about someone who bought a supertank and had his dealer install it. That would take care of any warranty issue. If they put it on then they can't say much.

PalmValleyGmc,

I'm not sure if what your saying regarding a dealer-installed aftermarket part is entirely correct, I don't think that you are automatically protected. The dealership that installed it may warrentee it but that doesn't mean if you break down out of town that a different dealer will make valid your claim. Does that make sence?

John regarding the injectors please read my other post entitled

"LLY and the Edge"

Basically i thought my truck was running fine untill I hooked up an Edge Juice. The Edge magnified the imbalance between the injectors that was not noticable to the naked eye.

Yeah I see what your sayin' , I dunno try goin' to the dealership and have them call to get it approved by the manufacture. Either they do it or not , that way it will either be covered or at least you'll know it ain't.
