I think I remember this from my 01 Dmax. My 03 dosent do it. My brand new 05 lly does.


top end of rpms at shift points you can hear what sounds like a valve chatter or loud pre ignition. very briefly but quite noticeable.


If you just baby through gears it dosent do it so i can assume it depends on the load.


Perhaps its the injectors, I hate to bring up old issues if this has been disscused before.

Sounds like pilot injection dropping out. My '01 did it quite often, the '03 very rarely. Considered normal operation...

Pilot injection cuts out at higher rpms....2500 rpm seems to be the magic #.

I have the same thing happen on mine, I thought it was normal. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is something to be concerned about?

Pilot injectors are shut off a approx 2700 RPM, The DMAX then sounds noisier , this is normal operation.

Yea, what o2b12s said. Pilot injection shuts off at around 2500. Sounds wierd when it happens but it's normal.

I do remember my 01 w/ no mods did it as well

My truck sounds like an old 6.5 chevy diesel when it is cold until the water temp hits about 180 degrees, and then it is like I flip a switch and it instantly quiets down. I just noticed it after I downloaded the power pup 75hp setting. It could have been doing it before but I have never noticed it. Is it normal?

My LLY is definately louder when the pilot injecton shuts off then my LB7 was.

UPDATE........


I installed the AFE air box today, the only mod to date. While driving out to softball tonite It sounded a little differant as far as turbo whistle goes. With out alot of miles yet 340 Ive tried not to put the hammer down to much.


Back to the subject of engine noise/Clatter, Rattle at high RPMs


It was still there. I tried somewhat of a hard launch @ 1500 braking and brought on through the gears and no clatterhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif


Next lite did it again with the same results,this time I watched the tach go rite through red line with a quick 3400 at 2-3 shift and was pullin pretty hard NO CLATTER hmmmmmmmm


Tried again at part throttle and clatter is there.


Seems to me when I feed the FIRE more fuel Clatter goes away. Maybe thats why my LB7 w Juice hasnt done http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif it Just thinkink out loud and learning.
