I am looking for some input on better shocks.

I have an 04.5 LLY i cranked the front up a bit to get 285's on with out rubbing but with a load i do alot of bouncing. I know shocks probably wont stopp all of this but they may help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bilsteins are the favorites around here. Contact www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com)

Others have had good luck with ranchos and a few others.

I purchased a set of the Edelbrock shocks for my new 2004 LLY.

They are excellent....!!!!

Check out their ability as they are designed to adapt to rough or smooth surfaces. I love the ride and the handeling of the truck was noteably improved.

Each shock is dyno tested and calabrated for the truck.

Read the tech data on this product at their web site.

If you drive the truck unloaded look into the Velvet ride shackles by Lord industries. They solve the sharp jolt in the rear end. Additionally, they will hold the truck rearend on the ground when you are cornering on a rough road....!!!! You will love um....!!!

I have the rancho 9000 adjustables, seem to take the bounce out.
started at 8 and moved them down till I got a smooth ride. They
are set on 4 now and I like the ride.

I have the Ranchos also and they are great. I don't know if the they are still offering the promo but if you purchase four rs9000x shocks they will send you an in cab conrtoller for free. Kinda a cool idea to change the ride depending on what you encounter.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Edelbrock dyno tests their shocks? That's good because sometimes
you get a nasty wheelhop on the dyno rollers if they're not round.

hehehehe

Have Ranchos, great shocks, love the adjustability. I set them where I want them not where a manufacturer thinks I want them.

My trucks literally destroy all shocks before 10,000 miles except Bilsteins due the the high speeds for long hours on tracks the Mexicans and Guatemalans call roads - for the most part they are merely joining potholes and destroyed pavement. Edelbrock were the worst of the above mentioned and Edelbrock the company finally bought me off after I went through two sets. They admitted their shocks would not hold up. BUT, for a normal street pickup, suv, etc that does not see rough use or offroad, they are a great shock and give a great ride. For extreme use, they get super hot (can not touch them) and fail. Rancho 9000 did the same for one of my trucks - got very hot after sustained use and failed at about 10,000 miles. Gave me my money back. Talked to Bilstein factory rep who promised me they would buy me any shock I wanted and pay for its installation if I wasn't satisfied. That truck, a 93 CC 4X4 with a Peninsular 300+ 6.5 in it is still going with over 200,000 on the shocks (300,000 on the truck). My 02 D/A CC 4X4 went 73,000 on the Bilsteins and they were like new when I sold it. Bilsteins just arrived for my 05 and they will get the c--p beat out of them in Guatemala for 3 months this winter. One key thing about the Bilsteins - after hard or prolonged use, put your hand on them. They are warm, but not hot. Normal hydra shocks will get hot, and you cannot touch them. This is why many went to cooling systems on very expensive racing shocks that take sustained punishment building up heat. As in engines, turbo's and transmissions, Heat Kills shocks.

Best testimonial you could probably get in favor of Bilsteins. I know I've been saying "I'll get them soon." I really will this time. . .

I'd like to know what it means to "dyno test" a shock.

Well thanks for all the input. I ended up with the bilsteins. So far so good. I will be taking my trailer out over Halloween and will see what I think of them while towing. As for no load they are great.

With the T bars turned up, and the bigger tires. I had the same problem with the "Bouncing". I hated the way it rode with the stock shocks. But after I installed The Bilsteins it rode exactly the way it should. I also got them from Kennedy diesel. $260. shipped...

Best money I've spent on the truck so far!

My Bilsteins made a HUGE difference over the factory junk. By far one of the best mods to date!
