I have an 01 duramax that has had a rattle noise coming from the lifters for about a year. I had the injectors replaced 40K back. Pulled a 10K load last week and truck lost 50% of power. Could not pull it over 45MPH. Dealership said that my injector pump was out and that what I heard was a lean burn rattle in my engine. Anyone heard of that? Is there something else that I should check out before paying the $1700? I had filters changed but did not help.

I just noticed a similar rattle today while driving down the road. However, my rattle seems to be coming from under the front of the truck. At first I was thinking maybe the torque converter bolts were loose, but it's hard to tell rollin' down the road at 55 mph.....no loss of power though. I'll be intersted in some other replies.

Thanks for the reply. I also noticed that when I press hard on the fuel pedal, it does not produce black smoke like it has always done.

my truck quit about 3 weeks ago , took it to the dealer and they puller the pump , somehow broke 3 teeth off of the pump gear and bent the pump shaft , said something about a lean condition ?? what causes it ? the idiots replaced the pump , called them last night , they said it was running , but making a rattling noise , is it from the 3 teeth that are missing or something else?

If my truck is running lean, could that cause more damage to the motor. Someone said that it could be caused by the additives they are putting in the diesel. Would that cause my IP to fail?
