26"hg at the vacuum pump, 15"hg at the wg actuator at idle and 2000rpm

Not bein' a smart-alec, but if it was me, after I replaced one already I would be putting on a Turbo Master.

Wait. That's what I did. D-OH

You don't need a vac pump.....but you need gauges to run a turbo master.

Turbo master= you control the vacum via mechanical wastegate control..........(Steel rod W/ a spring to control boost).........but don't over boost, get gauges.

Actually, you don't need gauges to run a turbo master, either, as long as you buy the real one and set it according to the directions.

Now, if you want to set it up for higher boost, or if you want to build your own, THEN you need gauges.

As for needing a Vac pump, you don't, with an "F" engine... you have no EGR to run.

As for a max-e-torq ... I love mine. More power, better shifting, better fuel mileage, designed to work with the turbomaster - what's not to like?

Oh yeah - the price. I think it's worth it to chip these things, but to wach his own.

Jif,
Your probably right about the "SET TO DIRECTIONS" thing,..................But I'd still want to know what kind of boost I was making, Or at least I've been "TOLD" that I would want to know how much boost I was making.

Before changing the vacum pump, I would check to make sure that the vacum lines are not plugged, or leaking and losing vacum. Also, the switch (not sure if that is what it is called) that controls the wastegate is known to fail, and the nipples will break off where the vacum lines attach. Lots cheaper than a new vacum pump.

EGT is more important than Boost - you can kill the engine on 7psi - but I do like to watch the needle wrap around the dial as Boost increases.
