I'm sorry I don't have the answer on the loudness for ya Rick, as far as doing more, I don't think you can. Someone else may correct me though......

I have an AFE stage II and it did make the whislte a little louder but it is still not like the fords around here. I think some of the really loud ones might be aftermarket turbos, I do have a question to anyone with an AFE stage II.

I am wondering about the lid. Has anyone removed the lid for long periods and seen a change in anything. Better with or with out?

I've heard a 6.0l Ford with and intake and 4" exhaust. That turbo was loud just manuvering in a driveway. I believe it is the variable inlet guides that help spool up "their" turbo. I wouldn't want one that loud.

A louder turbo doesn't mean more/better anything. Just remember....Duramax rules, others drool! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

I've got a friend with a 2003 6.0L Ford. Everything is stock except for the exhaust-he's running a 4" straight pipe all the way back. The whistle out of the exhaust sounds like a jet taking off. Kinda cool.

I listened to an '04 powerchoke with a straight pipe. You cannot hear engine noise till around 30 MPH. Before that, the only noise coming from the exhaust is turbo whistle. IMHO, that was too much whistle! But like the old saying, opinions are like ...

Exhaust and a programer helped the wistle a bit. Also swisscheesing the factory box helped. Or you could go with an intake(that helps quite a bit)

I noticed quite a difference when i put my cowl hood on and then i yanked the insulation from under the hood.

Wont be able to get it to wistle like a newer ford though or even a cranked dodge.

Has anyone pulled the tinfoil off of the fender by the intake? This probably won't make much of a difference, though.

The predator helps out a little. It also helps it bark http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley34.gifif you ever get in the mudhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif. I have a K&N intake, but I took it off this weekend. The intake helps a little, but it is not worth $250+ in my opinion.

1. no performance added.

2. Allows a whole lot more dirt in your engine. When I removed to intake tube, I could see where muddy water had spiraled through the tube during an excursion http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif.

It is all up to you though. If it is what you want, go for it.

Tin foil removed, didnt notice anything one way or another. Also tried plugging off the resonator thingy(big plastic thing that says Duramax 6600 on it and noticed no difference in sound.

An intake, straight pipe and a programmer will get you the
desired whistle...what I want is a really loud wastegate / blow
off valve... kind of like a WRC car! When you let off the throttle I
would like to hear the pSSSSSSSSTWHHHHOOOOOOSH of a
Subaru WRX STI!

Anyone know of aftermarket wategates / BOV's?

Oh Yeah...I had a question about the turbo...In any hot rod turbo
charged car it is always important to let the turbo cool down by
letting the car idle for a few minutes before shutting the car
off....Since i am always hearing the turbo whine in my
DMAX...(perhaps due to a bit of a lead foothttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif ) is it a good idea
to let the truck idle a while before turning it off? Would an HKS
turbo timer work on our trucks? Thoughts?

Thanks,

I like to let it have a little cool down time after kicking it in the a$$. Keeps the oil from coking up the passages in the turbo housing.
