: Diesel Audi wins 24-hours Le Mans!

Ok, just for those who think diesels are just for stump pulling or good mileage, an Audi diesel just won the 24-hours of Le Mans! Organizers had made Audi reduce the size of it's fuel tank so the gas cars could even compete (with the same sized tank the diesel would have had to make fewer pit stops for fuel). Even with the same number of stops the diesel STILL won.

They made them run a smaller tank because last year they were finishing so far ahead of the rest of the pack. They were measuring the lead time in laps instead of seconds.

Here is a very cool video of the assembly of the winning R10 diesel engine and car. It's advertising, but still cool. I particularly like the part showing the actual diesel combustion event inside the cylinder. And the audio of the engine running...wow.

I saw those run at the Grand Prix of Houston. They are certainly impressive and compete very well. Several of my friends where shocked when I pointed out they were diesel :)
