: Low oil pressure???

I was cruising down the freeway at apx. 2000 RPM and noticed that my oil pressure was running about 30psi. I thought 'well, its kinda low, but still safe' and I was just a mile or so from my exit.

Well, as soon as I got on the exit ramp and let off the gas, the rpms dropped down and DOWN went the oil pressure! It dropped to the first red line and suddenly the info. center chimes and says LOW OIL PRESSURE!! I IMMEDIATELY throw it in neutral and kill the motor and coast to the shoulder.

I check the oil level and its just fine. So, Im about 2 miles from home; I fire up the motor and the oil pressure stutters up to 30ish. So I run for home.

After I get home, I waited a good half hour and go run around the neighborhood to see what happens. Everything is fine! ??

Any opinions on what happened??

I've got 4000 on this oil and was going to change it at 5000. Im running Delo 400. never had a problem with it before.

Smell of oil? Sensor related? Electrical glitch.......?

Get it in to the dealer. You have warranty. Plus the
technician should be able to pull a code. Unless you have a
friend with a programmer/scanner thingy.

I know I should just take it in, but I guess Im wondering how big of an issue this is since it hasn't happend since. (put about 150 miles on today with no issue).

The problem is, I have to switch out my big tires for the stockers to take it to the dealer and Im lazy :)

There was no smell, smoke or anything. The engine temp. was 189 and is usually 187. Edited by: 2MuchFun

sounds awfuly familiar to injectors...how did the truck seem to react to the drop?

When it dropped way down and I got the warning, I killed the motor very quickly so I cant really say how it felt. It felt fine prior to this happening and is running fine now http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif

I think I do recall previous occasions where I thought maybe the pressure was a bit low. I now know that -at freeway speeds- it should be at 60.

Are our injectors (on the LB7) actuated by oil pressure?

.....dang it, I guess I better take the darn thing in

Let us know what you come up with. Tires MAY not be an issue (at the moment) since it is not a drivability issue.

Max, Im watching closesly and waiting for it to happen again.

If it doesnt, I'll let the dealer do the next oil change and I'll mention it. ~Thats only 1000miles away.

I Have Seen Problems With Th 03 Oil Pressure Sending Units Which Are Different Than The 01 02's. The Service Manual Is Wrong On The 03's There Is Not T Off. It Is Farther Back On The Block Than The Earlier Ones, And Not To Fun To Get Off. Most Likely Failure Oil Pressure Sending Unit On The Downfall.

2Muchfun,
Did you ever find out what was wrong with your oil pressure guage? Mine's doing the same thing and I wrote a thread about it today under LB7 forum.
Did the dealer fix anything?
Here's the thread http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21624
Thx
