I have an 02 and just got the hot juice and i have it set on setting 1 for drive around and 3 for tow/haul and im in college right now and really can't afford 4 in. i was wondering if a muffler eliminator would work for now or do i just need to get 4 in now and don't worry about it. i pull a 24 ft g/neck cattle trailer from time to time. do i need to take it back to stock when i do this since im not intending on goin 4 in. Im just looking for some answers from yall pros out there.

You could leave the exhaust alone and you will be fine. If you don't have a pyrometer you should back it off to level 1 or 0 when towing to be on the safe side. There are lots of people running the Juice with stock exhaust and pulling.

but what bout when i do put it on level 3 to just play with it. will that stock exhaust let it flow enough so my egt's don't get to high since i don't have a pyrometer?

thanks for the replies

I straight piped mine with a welded in pipe. Muffler shop did it for 80
dollars. Stock exhaust with no muffler..... do it... if you like
attention and a tough sounding truck.

If you have a buddy that welds, you can do it cheaper than that.
A twelve pack and a piece of pipe is less than 20 bucks. If you
don't have a buddy that welds, just go buy the twelve pack, enjoy it,
and have a muffler shop put in a pipe for you.

Well, heck, if you can weld. Summitracing.com sells pipe dirt cheap. Just do it yourself. . . .

You should be able to get the pipe you need for about 20 bucks and then cut the muffler out and weld it in yourself.. I did mine took about 30 mins and some minor modifications... Simple and easy, now it is really loud....http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

I don't think mine is that loud. My wife commented it isn't as loud as my last truck. The volume isn't anymore pulling my 5K trailer than empty.

mine got kinda loud with straight pipe, but that's cuz I have a pair of 5" stacks comming up right behind the cab!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

I dont think my exahust is loud but the cops dohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

With a 90 hp juice I had a very hard time getting the egt's high unloaded with exhaust. Get a pyro though. I would think you would be safer spending cash on just a pyro than an exhaust or straight piping it especially if you are towing.

I wouldnt worry about EGT's if you are just doing a WOT blast but if you are doing a bunch in a row or autocrossing your truck or something you may need to worry.....I'd like to see sombody autocrossing thier 2500HD thoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif

JMO but for daily driving set it to 90 hp or the level under it in both regular and TH and crank her down when you actually tow or load it down.

If you go with Dennis' approach(not a bad one I might add) dont get the 12 pack and then go weld. Not that I have ever welded under the influencehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

I have a question for those of you who have just put a straight pipe in.

On the stock muffler the exhaust comes in toward the bottom, and exits near the top. How did you put a straight pipe in the place of an offset muffler?

I set the exhaust tip on a jackstand in the right location and carefully cut the ends until I had the right angles. That was the tricky part because you can't make it longer only shorter. Getting it tacked in by myself was a giant PITA. A couple more hands would have made it a lot easier. Nothing a couple more passes with the welder didn't fix.

one more question for yall pros. i bought my edge off of ebay and it says i have 4.61 version and in magic marker it says hot, so how do i know if i really do have the hot or was i taken for? i think it says ejc-1000 as the model number. and how do i get the hook-ups for the attitude since mine is the older version? or since im not thinkin about any tranny upgrade for awhile or at least till i get out of college instead of the attitude shall i just get gauges on the post or what is yalls thinkin on this.

and i did get the straight pipe installed and just love it. i can't seem to keep my foot off of it.

I have. It sounds a lot better than stock. It's not near as loud as my LB7, but when you really get on it and a car, fence, etc. is beside you, it sounds like an F16 taking off. It almost hurts my ears, but I love it. The LLY and LB7 have two totally different sounds from each other. Can't compare them.Edited by: codythom

I also did this once. It was okay for a while but it seemed to have a lot of resonance in the cab and became annoying when pulling trailers. Also at certain rpms it was very loud in the cab.

I don't mind the loudness if it didn't resonate in the cab and vibrate the floor boards. I was wondering if it is the flex pipe making it loud in the cab? I was thinking about trying an actual piece of pipe this time to see if it is a little quiter.

The LLY sounds like a freaking jet and that gets a lot more atten. than the lb7 sound
