: My turn for injectors

Took my truck to the dealer yesterday as the knock at idle was getting worse. Told them I had a friend with a Tech II that checked the balence rates a couple of weeks ago and he found #7 was at 5.3mm3 (thanks again SP33D). Also told them the truck just started smoking blue/grey at idle sometimes as well.

Well, just got a call from SM that the #7 injector is faulty and also found that #6 was on its way out. So they are going to replace #6 and #7 only. I asked if they were going to replace all 8 and they told me they only replace the defective ones. Is this not the case anymore?? SM told me the truck won't be ready 'till Monday or Tuesday as they have to tear into both banks. I told them I was in no hurry and just wanted it done right and not rushed. They are setting up a rental truck for me while the truck is down for repair as well, so that is cool.

So have things changed on Injector replacements???

The 03's are not in the 100,000 7 YR campaign but are on a by case bases for replacement of more than what is defective.

How many miles and was it intermediate? Mine (1)is a lot farther out then yours.Mine is steadily getting more reoccurring as to intermediate.

I haven't asked the dealer if they will except my freeze frames yet.

Mac,

Thanks for the response. Guess I should have mentioned the mileage. Truck is at 25,300ish. The knock was intermittent at idle sometimes it was fine, other times it sounded horrible...probably would knock every other day at least once?? I waited until the truck was knocking to take it in as I didn't want a could not duplicate response. Also forgot to mention, in the past couple of weeks it started to sound like a gasser pinging when accelerating.

Update:

Just picked up my truck and it is running great. Very smooth idle no knocks, pings or smoking! Here is what is on the work order:

Chk'd vehicle and found on test drive that vehicle shakes at idle and puffs white smoke intermittent. Refer to DOC#740655 and WAS REF to DOC#796346 inj balance test. Balance test found cyl #6 reading +6.7 and cyl #7 +8.6mm3. Cont diag with DOC#864820 step 48 and fuel press reg graohing normally. Fuel press normal at 159.4 MP. WAS REF to DOC#675324 and cyl compression good at over 300psi. As per diag, neccessary to replace injectors 6 and 7. Ref bulletin 03-06-04-036 and serviced all other inj and fuel supply rail. All ok on 6 mile road test. Retested inj balance per SI DOC#796346. All passed, no missfires. #6 and #7 balanced at -1.2 and -1.5 repectively. All ok at this time.
